The Man From Earth, Seen It?

Yeah once every few months someone will make a new thread about this movie. *looks at his calendar* Yup, right on time.

Hell yeah, it's great. There are two minor contrivances in the film, but both actually work.

There is a very unfortunate line toward the end. I'm sure you know the one. The read's not good either, but Dame Judi Dench wouldn't have saved it.

Otherwise, it's excellent.

I saw it once, but it was a while ago. Interesting movie, but I don't remember it too well. What are the two minor contrivances you are thinking of?

I guess spoilers be warranted:

The part where it turns out John Savage is Jesus, which is less a contrivance I suppose that, you know, the whole point of the movie; but also the part where Richard Riehle turns out to be his child, no doubt one of many thousands. I guess immortality is a recessive trait.

Thoroughly enjoyed it as blasphemous as it is. Its written by the guy who wrote the mirror episode of TOS.

Really interesting and different film. Not for everyone but if sci-fi to you is more about ideas then things going bang then check it out.

I enjoyed it, but it definitely felt like a stage play at times instead of a movie. By this I mean it was a bit talky and the direction was rather uninspired. It was definitely a smarter written film than a lot of sf out there.

I'm glad other people have seen this. I felt like maybe it needed some flashbacks or something just for a change of setting. Regarding the spoiler, I figured that there had to be some proof that he was telling the truth. What other Star Trek alumni are in this other than John Bilingsly?

Ah yeah, I thought I recognized those guys. Also Tony Todd was the Candyman as well as the voice of the Fallen. Overall a good movie, I can't say I'd buy the DVD, but certainly will watch it again. Just on concept alone, I'd give it a B. It feels like it would have made a good Twilight Zone episode or something, but obviously in the realm of Star Trek as well.

Well, it was written by Jerome Bixby, who wrote episodes of both The Twilight Zone and Star Trek.

I bought the DVD. There's some cool extras.
Great movie. Would work perfectly as a play. The dialogue though definitely seemed like it was written by a science fiction writer. A bit stilted, not what people would really say. Not all of it, just some.

I thoroughly enjoyed it so much, that after one viewing from Netflix, I bought the DVD. I still have it, and I still watch it. Great movie.
