The Legend of Korra: Book 4

I really liked this episode. I always cherish the spirit-related stories so it was great to see something not directly connected to Kuvira about the spirit world. I loved seeing Korra finally get her spiritual shit together and particularly her working with Zaheer. I almost want to see them let Zaheer out to help them fight Kuvira. But he would obviously just fly away once he sucked her off this mortal plane.
 
Caught up finally. I loved the clip show. Varrick might be a jerk, but he's hysterical!

For the latest episode, I think Zaheer realized that his attempt to restore balance led instead to something horrid. Gave him character development.
 
Oh, by the way, Book 4 has just begun airing on Nicktoons. They're showing the first three episodes back-to-back even as I write this, and they're apparently showing three more next Friday. If they keep that up, that means they'd show episodes 7-9 on the day that episode 11 debuts online, so on the 19th they'd catch up.
 
Yes! Zhu Li was sabotaging the weapon all along! I knew Zhu Li would do the (right) thing!

And I hope that getting scolded by the inventor of metalbending will plant some seeds of doubt in Kuvira's mind.

The suspended prison gets me wondering: How close does an Earthbender have to be to earth/metal to affect it? I haven't really been playing that close attention, but while it usually entails direct physical contact to initiate an earthbending move, either with the material itself or with the ground/wall that it's a part of, we've definitely seen bending of bits of rock or metal that are hovering in midair. So I'm not quite sure what the rules are there.

Oh, from the Avatar Wiki: "Kuvira's Gambit" will air online on the 12th and on Nicktoons on the 19th, but the 2-part finale, "Day of the Colossus" and "The Last Stand," will air both online and on Nicktoons on the 19th. I'm guessing that's just on the same day, not as a simulcast. This is good news, since it means I don't have to put up with the problematical quality of online viewing for those last two.
 
"Operating Beifong" was a great episode but I'm crushed that Toph didn't fight Kuvira! It really bothered me that they had about five of the greatest earth-benders in the world right in front of Kuvira and they didn't try to take her down. Feels like an artificial extension of the story. (and once again Korra is not involved in the primary story) I was hoping at least ONE spirit agreed to help Korra.

Well, Toph is 86 years old, and that one big Earthbending move she did seemed to take a lot out of her, given what she said about her back. And remember, Su and her backers did take on Kuvira's army before, and lost badly. If they'd stayed and fought, they might've been able to take out the weapon, but would've gotten even more of their own captured or killed in the process. This way, they're all free and able to team up with the rest of the defenders.

I wonder if maybe they were helping her... by letting her know she isn't yet asking the right question.

The vines are spirits too. Kuvira and Unalaq both forced spirits to become weapons, and Korra says she doesn't want that. Maybe what she needs to do is not to conscript spirits to fight for her side, but to find a way to free the trapped spirit vines from Kuvira's control.
 
I think the Spirits were not wrong.. this is a human conflict and they are the ones getting hurt.

Then again Korra is not very good at explaining things or even diplomacy.. she sort of expected every Spirit to go "Hell yeah.. let's kick some Kuvira ass!" just because she asked them too and was shocked that she got shot down.

She really had no arguments to speak of and expected help.. Korra needs some serious diplomacy training.

Bolin is once again my hero (and my favorite character) because as clumsy as he is his heart is in the right place and he wants to do the right thing. Kuvira abused that and misled him but Bolin wised up. Now he risks his own life for a person he had little contact with just because it is right.. i'd have been pissed if Opal still would have left him dangling.

The fight between Kuvira and Suyin was so awesome.. i actually went "Woah!" when Suying improvised the armor out of that sheet of metal.. that's some really creative usage of metal bending (and in the middle of the fight no less) :techman:

I am not that familiar with the original Avatar series so maybe (probably) i am missing much about Toph but she comes off as a real ass to Lin when she casually steps all over Lin's feelings and doesn't even realize it. Lin's outburst was totally justified but then again we saw Toph getting affected by it and realizing her error.

Yes, the fight ended abruptly but then again it was a good move because they were in the middle of enemy territory, with Kuvira present (and near effortlessly defeating Suyin) and Toph all but expended her power so chances would have been high that they would be captured again.

The real reason though (most likely) is that the final fight is reserved for Korra and Kuvira.
 
That's interesting, if you never saw the original series, what got you watching this show? And aren't you dying to go see the original? It's great! :D
 
Yeah, seriously, watch the original series. I don't think I would be able to enjoy Korra as much as I do without my knowledge of The Last Airbender.

I'm a fantasy fan by default and heard much good about Last Airbender (on top of viewing some parts of some episodes when it was in TV).

However i never got around catching it in full which is true for many good shows that i know are good but for some reason have a hard time actually starting them. Maybe when i can get my hands on them somewhere i'll watch.

With Korra it was easy since i was there from the start and watched continuously.
 
Kuvira's gun reminds me of those German world war 2 railway guns that theoretically looked impressive but are practically useless as they can only be deployed in places where there is a railway track pointed in the right direction.

Interesting point. Though, Germany didn't have earth-benders and metal-benders, and railroad tracks are essentially just combinations of dirt and metal. I doubt Kuvira will have quite as many deployment issues. It's bound to slow her down a bit, though.
 
Well she only has to get it in range (or just LoS) of her target and there seems to be an extensive railway system throughout the Earth Kingdom/Empire. Also, her targets are liable to be big cities, which generally have multiple railway lines leading right to them. Indeed, that's rather the whole point, no? ;)

I'm wondering if Korra's new energy bending skills can divert one of those beams...I mean she stood up to that kind of power before....granted she was in her giant spirit form, but still...

I'm sure an entire army of metal-benders could pick up the cannon from the track and shift it slightly to aim it.
