With only 4 left (all of which are even numbered films, BTW) I'm still not ready to vote for First Contact (although I don't fault any of you who would choose to at this point. The remaining films are clearly great).

I give it to ST:IV: The Search for Whales, because it was a shameless attempt (albeit successful) at giving Star Trek mass appeal. The vast majority of the film doesn't even take place in space (unlike First Contact). The alien probe is never heard from or seen again, and its existence never explained.

Of the four movies left, I love the fact that two of them are Moby Dick analogs and one is an actual whale movie. What the hell is up with this franchise?

I don't dislike it, per say, but I feel it is the weakest of these four. No real use of the Goldsmith/Courage fanfare, a little too much of a dim view of humanity, and a slow middle.

I've voted for TVH. Four strong films are left now, but I think the whale film is the weakest one here, despite its popularity with the mass audience. It has lots of good moments though, it's not like I hate it. FC may not have been TNG at its best, but it was an excellent film nevertheless, and deserves to be in the top three.

As my vote in the previous round, I'll eliminate First Contact - yes, it's a good movie and has one of the best opening 30 minutes of the whole franchise, but the moment the action is split between Earth and Enterprise it slows down and loses some of its drive IMO.

And I'll start the next round by casting my vote for The Undiscovered Country. It's really a difficult decision by now, but somehow right now I'm more in the mood for lighthearted banter and Spock's reintegration into the crew than for conspiracies.

OK, I sort of get it, but shouldn't there just be one movie in each post with a number other than zero?

So why are there posts with TVH-2, TWOK-4, etc.?

if those are tallies, can't they be all done in one post by one poster so it doesn't seem so confusing? Maybe I'm the only one confused.


So if I like TVH the least of the four remaining, it would look like this:

And my own vote goes to The Undiscovered Country. I really like this one, but it has a few silly details which bring it down. Discussing the possibility of ending Starfleet? What about the whole exploring the galaxy thing? And why is Klingon blood pink in this movie? This will not stand.

Bringing it to a tie because I prefer TVH to TUC. I like both of them equally from a story perspective (maybe even TUC more) but I think TVH is the overall superior of the two and deserves to be saved.
