The least disliked episode of Voyager - Season Five

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
This is a game that we play every few years or so, and it's generally a lot of fun, providing a chance to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, why not play again?

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters, and wait at least 6 hours after your last vote, before voting again.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you feel they would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

I'll surgically remove In the Flesh - for all the talk about how Voyager lessened the Borg as villains, here they completely neuter a once-intriguing race in a single episode. I thought the way they treated Species 8472 was nothing short of a joke. I couldn't buy anything about this premise or how they acted.

My favorite ep of the entire series is in this season... be curious to see how quick it goes. ;)
For this round, it's a tough choice between 3 episodes for me, but I'll go with the removal of The Disease... one of my least favorite "Harry eps"...

Once upon a Time is done. I remember it being just awful, the holodeck stuff was creepy.

Saying goodbye to "BLISS". It was rather fun, but you can see through it immediately and all the way through to the end. No suspense... totally predictable.

Now The Fight has gone I don't think there are any outright stinkers left. A pretty good season really. I'll get rid of Juggernaut which is merely decent/

No new year for 11:59. While entertaining to some, it feels like a waste of an hour to me.

Eliminating Extreme Risk. Episodes based around characters acting sullen can be kind of a drag. Not to say they can never work but the writing has to be better for it to work.

Latent Image, it does nothing for me and the conflict at the episodes core is silly, they should have simply pressed the doctor's reset button. I never cared for this "We can't treat him like a tool that's part of the ship although he's absolutely a tool that's part of the ship" attitude.

"Thirty Days" I have never cared for. It's so flat and joyless. And keeping Paris at the con, in the same position we've always seen him in, totally undercuts the stakes of his demotion. It's an episode that's trying to be all about consequences, cut off at the knees by the fact that we don't really get any consequences.

Normally I wouldn't blame the episode itself for the bad follow-up, but they knew they weren't moving Paris from his usual spot. This is not a script you should write when you know you're not changing the configuration of your bridge characters after.

(Aside: is it a mistake that Dark Frontier is listed as two eps? Since it was originally aired as a single feature-length ep, Voyager's first since "Caretaker." Though I guess the weird treatment of "The Killing Game" confuses the issue -- IIRC, both parts were aired on the same night, but not in a feature-length-episode edit, each part had it's own credit sequence and all that.

That can be the explanation for why the first two Discovery episodes feel like a two-hour pilot artificially split in the middle. It was not a miscalculated marketing plot. It was an homage to "The Killing Game" :) )

I never thought about this that much but you're right. Paris lasting punishment is that he gets to wear one less pip on his collar, the horror.:rommie:

Let's not blame 'The Killing Game' for the crap that Discovery's two-hour pilot was, lol ;)

Gosh I'm struggling to pick one. Warhead goes.

I have to defend the decision, as unlikely as this may seem. Paris is the best pilot on the ship, and taking him from that position would have hurt the crew's survivability a bit more. Demoting him, and him staying that way for a year and a half, was fitting. And being held for a month in the brig, too.

Time to get rid of "RELATIVITY". As much fun as it was, this time travel episode always gave me a headache, much more so than any other time travel story.

I'm removing Timeless. It's a reset button episode, there's no tension, of course they'll succeed in changing the past and it features the two lamest characters and weakest actors in the cast. The scene of Voyager crashing is impressive but overall the episode isn't strong.
It would have been better with Janeway and Paris in the flyer I think. Janeway would go mad blaming herself that she failed her crew and Tom would have a similar reaction but also a more personal reason trying to get B'Elanna back.

Gravity is out... I'm not a fan of Lori Petty and I felt the least engagement with this ep vs all the others that remain (despite my liking Tuvok quite a bit).
