The least disliked episode of TOS - final part

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Here we have the winners and runners up of each season:

Season One: The Devil in the Dark
Wild Card: The City on the Edge of Forever
Season Two: Journey to Babel
Wild Card: Mirror, Mirror
Season Three: The Enterprise Incident
Wild Card: Day of the Dove

So now it is time for the final part.

*RULES*

Give what you consider to be the worst/your least favourite episode ONE point, and briefly explain WHY. Be sure to copy and paste the list with your point added. When an episode reaches 4 points, it is eliminated. Then a NEW round begins (in this thread) with the numbers restored to 0. Vote ONCE per round. And enjoy! :bolian:

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 0
The Enterprise Incident - 0
Day of the Dove - 0

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 0
The Enterprise Incident - 1
Day of the Dove - 0

Not a bad episode, but the others are so much better. The Romulan Commander basically throws away her career.

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 1
The Enterprise Incident - 1
Day of the Dove - 0

Mirror, Mirror - a great episode ruined by terrible stunt men.

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 1
The Enterprise Incident - 2
Day of the Dove - 0

The Enterprise Incident - An overrated episode. I've never much cared for the performance of the Romulan Commander.

BTW, I missed when we brought in the Wild Card episodes. When/How did that happen?

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 1
The Enterprise Incident - 3
Day of the Dove - 0

It's a really tough call, but I have to put my marble on TEI. Any pro-feminism on behalf of the Romulan commander is overshadowed by the fact that Spock's sheer manliness is her undoing. Also, the set of the Romulan engine room looks cheap, tiny and unconvincing. Away ya go!

BTW, I missed when we brought in the Wild Card episodes. When/How did that happen?

For the final part of each series, we also use the runner-up (the last episode eliminated) from each season.

I'll cast an eliminating vote for The Enterprise Incident, simply the least watchable episode remaining amongst strong competition.

Scores reset.

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 0
Day of the Dove - 0

Thanks for the explanation.

Since it's a new round, I'll get in the first vote.

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 0
Day of the Dove - 1

Day of the Dove isn't really a bad episode by any means, but it's clearly the worst out of this lot. I'll rewatch any of the other four before that one.

Jerome Bixby is the only author to have two eps vying for the title. Not bad at all, but I agree. DOTD is the weakest of the lot.

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 0
Day of the Dove - 2

Interesting that 3 of the 5 are bottle shows! I always knew these were the best

I just can't bring myself to vote!

One vote for "Journey to Babel". I enjoy it, but the fight between Kirk and the Orion really comes out of nowhere. It just cuts and they're fighting.

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 1
Mirror, Mirror - 0
Day of the Dove - 2

Day of the Dove - 2

"The City on the Edge of Forever" gets my vote out of the remaining episodes. Very good episode for the most part, but Edith Keeler gets more annoying as the story goes along. I hate to admit but I'm ready to see her die by the end. Also I never really cared for Joan Collins for some reason. It could be an anti-"Dynasty" bias.

The Devil in the Dark - 1
The City on the Edge of Forever - 1
Journey to Babel - 1
Mirror, Mirror - 0
Day of the Dove - 2

The Devil in the Dark - really kinda dull, with long stretches of Nimoy's "paaaiiin." It's claustrophobic, but not in a good "The Thing From Another World" way. The miners all all from New Jersey, which distracts me no end. Really, never saw the huge fondness for this episode. I almost never revisit it.

Great for the really awesome, unintentionally funny line of dialog....

GIOTTO: Mister Vanderberg and his men are here, and they're pretty ugly.

It's funny, cuz it's true.

The Devil in the Dark - 1
The City on the Edge of Forever - 1
Journey to Babel - 1
Mirror, Mirror - 0
Day of the Dove - 3

One for Day of the Dove. A good episode, but let's be real: no season 3 episode is as good as the best from 1 and 2.

OK, I'm going for Mirror Mirror - great story, but the concept of a parallel universe being so different and yet so familiar (even down to the same group of people being present and the acid stain on McCoy's desk!) requires more mental gymnastics than the other episodes to explain away

The Devil in the Dark - 1
The City on the Edge of Forever - 1
Journey to Babel - 1
Mirror, Mirror - 1
Day of the Dove - 3

The Devil in the Dark - 1
The City on the Edge of Forever - 1

Mirror, Mirror - 1

Bye, bye Dove. Really - a karate chop to the elbow is sufficient to knock out a Klingon?

Scores reset, new round.

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 0
Mirror, Mirror - 0

Nice info about Spock, but it is all a bit of a soap opera and over the top.

Not everyone keeps their genitals in the same place, Captain. ;)

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 0
Journey to Babel - 2
Mirror, Mirror - 0

A second vote for Babel. It tries to do a little too much, which makes it a bit disjointed compared to the other episodes on this list.

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 1
Journey to Babel - 2
Mirror, Mirror - 0

Yeah - Edith Keeler really was an increasingly irritating goody-two-shoes. Now, if she really wanted to do a fella a favor . . .

The Devil in the Dark - 0
The City on the Edge of Forever - 2
Journey to Babel - 2
Mirror, Mirror - 0

Voting "City" off the Island again. Same reasons as before.
