The least disliked episode 2021 - PIC Season One

For the next round I vote The Impossible Box for giving the borg technology that allows them to drop drones into the middle of a city, that simply didn't make sense, they should be unstoppable with that.
While I understand what you're getting at, what you're describing is the transporter. These guys not only had that, they could scoop up entire cities. (What they did with them was never explained.)

But the spatial trajector works over tens of thousands of lightyears which would allow a single cube to attack all federation worlds simultaneously.

I don't see a continuity problem with the spatial trajector either. "Prime Factors" established this technology had some serious limitations -- the planetary mantle itself was a component in making the device work. Obviously the Borg figured out a way to take it on the road, but that doesn't also mean they found a way to transition it to an unlimited resource.

I'll go with Maps and Legends next. It's just a little weaker than the others left.

"The Impossible Box"... I don't it hurt continuity, either. But the Borg having it and not using it since they obviously had a workaround the Sikarians didn't is a problem.

The Borg having this massive advantage, arguably even better than the transwarp conduits, and not using it on a regular basis makes no sense.

All the Borg have to do is send a few drones to command center of any planet, and given how quickly they can assimilate, it would be a Borg world in a day or so.

Look at how quickly the Borg assimilated the Enterprise in FIRST CONTACT.

It's why the episode gets my vote again.

The Impossible Box again, same reason as before.

The Impossible Box - simply the weakest remaining.

Absolute Candor - Elnor has to be the lamest Star Trek character in years and years.

Aww, I love him. He just needs (a lot) more development next season. Sad to see "Absolute Candor" out before a couple of these others, though I forgot the Borg ice-skating is in there. Bad scene.

"Maps and Legends." Same rationale as earlier.

Gonna cut out Maps and Legends. I think it's the weakest of what's left.

I'm surprised The Impossible Box keeps getting on the precipice of being cut though, since it's by far the strongest episode in the series IMHO. Strong thematic core, The Artifact is actually menacing, Narek finally does something, etc. Last 5 minutes downgrade it a bit of course.

I kind of figured it'd be "Remembrance" and "Nepenthe" at the top two, with "Nepenthe" being the likely victor. I enjoy "The Impossible Box" a great deal but I didn't get the impression it resonated with folks half as much as these two did?

I'll do "Remembrance." Love it, but "Nepenthe" is my clear favorite and I also think "The Impossible Box" is a fantastically thrilling episode.

Haha, as soon as I say that someone comes along and votes against "Remembrance." :guffaw:

The problem with Nepenthe is while the stuff on the planet with Picard, Soji and the Rikers is fantastic, the stuff on La Sirena is...okay, and the stuff with Elnor and Hugh on the Artifact is terrible.

I can't rate an episode which has an excellent A plot, a decent B plot, and a terrible C plot as the best.

TIB -- It's even truer now than the first time I voted it, which seems like an eternity ago btw.

The Impossible Box - 3

Nepenthe - good episode but still features a lot of the general late-season WTFery that plagued the show. Remembrance, on the other hand, left me with great hope.

Hardest vote yet for me. Remembrance is probably the best Trek pilot in general. (Not a high bar, I know.) Nepenthe is just fantastic. Not only for Picard and the Rikers, but a lot of the interplay between Rios, Raffi and Agnes is also fun as hell. I'll give my vote to Remembrance, but by a sliver.

As for the Impossible Box introducing technology that should make the Borg unstoppable, I'd like to remind everyone that First Contact exists. You know, the film that gave the Borg time travel, that they inexplicably never use again?

"Remembrance" again. I think the achievements of "Nepenthe" are astounding, and it all really holds up on rewatch.

"Remembrance" is good, but it's easy to write a great beginning when you've freed yourself from the obligation of having to deliver a great (or even coherent) ending.

Nepenthe. Remembrance isn't my favorite, but I can't rate an episode with that shlockly plot with Hugh and Elnor as the best of the season, no matter how fantastic other portions are.

Remembrance - 2
Nepenthe - 2
