Both parts of "Et in Arcadia Ego" are so terrible, it's hard to choose which one is worse! I'll give it to Part II this round. In Part I, I still had some wisps of hope. The synth homeworld was a joy to behold, but Et in Arcadia Ego I is easily the weakest episode for me in PIC's first season. There was just nothing to it to remember fondly. Definitely "Et in Arcadia Ego I." I actually quite like the second part. Is it perfect? Good lord, not in a million years. But its heights are among my favorite parts of the season. That's true! The production team, top to bottom, did an incredible job realizing the synths and their homeworld. It was a perfectly modern version of season 1 TNG ideas. They evoked the Edo, revised just enough so that you could take them seriously. That is the great pleasure of these episodes for me, the visuals. If only I could ignore every line of dialogue...
'Et in Arcadia Ego I' gets the elimination from me. After some fantastic buildup, this episode really takes the wind of the season's sails. Luckily, the finale manages to salvage it somewhat, with the conversation between Picard and Data being one of my favourite moments in the franchise. Period. I know it's about to sink but I'm holding firm on not voting against it. I'd eliminate it closer to the middle, personally. "The End Is the Beginning" is by no means dire but it doesn't have the punch of "Maps and Legends," and certainly not "Remembrance." I find it to be the weakest of the three "premiere episodes."
