I forget where I read it (and too lazy to check at the moment) but I think some of the former devs may be actively lobbying for Mass Effect to indeed be a TV show. Here's hoping that gets some traction with the money people!A lot of JRPGs have anime series that follow the plot. If that was more of a thing in the US that could work with Mass Effect. Like one 10 episode season per game. But for movie length they’d need to tell a unique story in the world.
Eight seasons!? Yeah, no. No big budget TV show in the history of big budget TV shows has ever, or will ever, get an up-front 8 season commitment. Two from the outset maybe, tops. Then if it's a hit it might get a 3rd & 4th and play it by ear from then on, if not, the second season gets a slashed budget and left to die on the vine.
Even that aside, the first game doesn't really have enough material to get that far. The first game alone can be done in two 6-8 episode seasons (with the escape from the Pittsburg suburbs being the logical season one climax) and even that's allowing for padding a lot if it out with flashbacks and whatnot. If brevity is the name of the game they can do the whole thing in a lean 10 episodes, no problem. Haven't played the second game yet, but I assume the quantity is about the same, which only gets you to 4 seasons, by which point you're into "let the showrunners make it up from here" territory and we saw how well that want for GoT...
