Star Wars: The Last Jedi crossed $500 million domestic on its 16th day of release, one day ahead of Jurassic World and just six days behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It has now earned $517.1m in North America in its first 17 days, ending the year as the year's biggest domestic grosser, safely ahead of Beauty and the Beast ($504m). And by tomorrow, it'll be within spitting distance of the $532m domestic gross of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and $534m cume of The Dark Knight to be the sixth-biggest domestic earner of all time
it fell just 26% from last weekend and snagged the second-smallest drop ever (behind Rogue One's 22% drop) for the third weekend for a movie that opened above $100m over its initial Fri-Sun frame.
it if plays identically to both Rogue One and The Force Awakens from this point onward, it'll end its domestic run with $650-$670m in North America alone
It's going to end up one of the biggest grossers ever in North America and worldwide. No, it won't touch Force Awakens or any of the James Cameron movies worldwide, but that was never in the cards. The idea that the film is damaging to the Star Wars brand because it took a nasty second-weekend drop and/or was divisive among the fanbase is ludicrous when you consider the sheer size of the numbers and the strength of the post-Christmas hold.
Jumanji beat Star Wars on New Year's Day.
Disney to George Lucas:Jumanji beat Star Wars on New Year's Day.
Disney to George Lucas:
"Hello, I'd like to return one Star Wars and have my $4 billion back."
Sorry, Rian Johnson is sticking around.OH NOES! It's the end of the world!
Actually, according to BoxOfficeMojo, we're still seeing estimates for yesterday. Finals aren't in yet. Its possible they will end up differently. And even if Jumanji does beat out TLJ, eventually the film has to fall from #1. It is currently poised to be the 6th (perhaps the 5th or if it keeps the steam it has, 4th) highest grossing domestic film of all time and the top earner of 2017 domestically. If Disney looks poorly on that? Oh well.

Like the internet is short of thoseSeriously, anyone who thinks either Disney looks unfavorably on the box office performance of this movie or thinks it under performed is a crazy person.
Yes.Are there people that are calling it a flop?
Right now it is the 6th highest grossing movie of all time, and has a good chance of making it as high as 3 before it's done. It has already beat Rogue One, making it 2nd only to The Force Awakens which made nearly a billion dollars in America alone which is nearly unheard of, the 2nd being $700 million. That was largely fueled by it being the first Star Wars movie in more than a decade, the first one post-George Lucas, and the one looking to "redeem" the series from the prequels. Did you honestly think The Last Jedi was going to equal or beat that? If you did, your expectations were FAR too high, especially considering there were people who did not like The Force Awakens, and this were not going to see The Last Jedi, let alone see it multiple times. The box office for The Force Awakens was a one in a generation perfect storm and was never going to be equaled.even if JJ had done ep 8.
It won't because it is a percentages game for them.Probably not going to end in tears for anyone at Lucas or Disney, but it isn't going unnoticed either
Exactly. We, as the audience, do not know what Disney is expecting, likely because all the percentages and work they have will only be known to them.so who knows what Disney was actually expecting.
