Actually I discussed this with a friend:
- If the light saber Rey gets in TFA had been Luke's green one, instead of Anakin's blue one, that actually smooths out a lot of conceits across both movies.
a. instead of it being the blue one, which was lost to the air ducts of bespin forever, never to be seen again, and you going "wtf?" it now becomes "luke is gone, and he doesn't have his green light saber. why doesn't luke have his light saber??"
b. his rejection of the lightsaber in TLJ then holds more weight because we learn later in the movie exactly why he threw it away in the first place (he almost killed ren ect ect)
so now you have a narrative throughline between both movies that actually makes sense, and doesn't just feel like it's being made up as it goes along
I still would not like the movie.. but hey it would be marginally improved
