The Killing Game

However, I see don't see using Nazi' instead of Cardies an error. I see it as a choice that had to be made for setting and format, and Nazi' were more acccessable than Cardies.

Hey, well as much as I think the Cardassian idea would be cool I still love the way the episode did go. Like I said way upthread; it's my favourite Voyager two-parter by a distance.

I also think due to Garak, Damar & Ziyal, some now are sympathic toward Cardies. Nobody is ever sympathic toward Nazi', so they still stand out as the ulitmate villains to use in story telling.

This is definitely true. Not many people [read:none] could jusify the Nazi's actions whereas the Cardassian's are a little more of a grey area.

Thanks for the awesome debate.:techman:

Yeah, right back at ya! I had a lot of fun today. :)

I think the only real flaw too me is, Chakotay & Paris got the short end of the stick playing the American soldiers. Their parts were almost non-existant.

The high point was, a Trek show final showed a city or town outside the US.(Even if it was only on a holodeck) While I'm American, I'd like to see the countries other Starfleet officers come from other than the USA. That and not everybody in the US is from corn or potato country.

In 1944 they were. There was little urban build up to be considered a civilization really compared to what was to come.

Yeah, that was a bit of a problem. To be honest, when it comes to Trek I prefer the idea of ensemble episodes rather than episodes more focused on specific members of the crew but that is not the way they go...

Yeah, I must admit that was refreshing. We must assume from what we are shown that a higher prevalence of officers come the U S of A. Maybe the people from other countries are more interested in other careers. I suppose with Starfleet Academy being in America that makes it more likely that Americans would join. I know it makes no sense that a planet like Earth with such an advanced transportation network would act like that but it has to be explained in story somehow.

..or Europeans are all good enough to serve on the Enterprise.

^ We saw an Academy in San Francisco...probably the main campus...but surely SF would need more than one campus or else they'd never come close to having enough officers...therefore it may be there is an Academy in London or Berlin or something, and people who attend that academy tend to get put into different ships (also explaining why Vulcans tend to group together on ships)

Great theory, however actually showing one would even be better.

I'm surprised in all the years of Trek, nobody has ever thought of that.

except that the major bulk of Starfleet would be enlisted persons like O'Brien, who get trained faster somewhere else and from Spock on Enterprise in the cage, and Nog on ds9, here's a lot of on the job/off campus training.
