The Khitomer Alliance?

Not sure if this has been answered elsewhere, but are we going to be getting a look at the Khitomer Alliance and it's members in addition to the Typhon Pact and it's members at some point in the near future?

The Khitomer Alliance (for lack of a better name) consists of:
The United Federation of Planets
The Klingon Empire
The Imperial Romulan State
The Ferengi Alliance
and I'm not sure if it's ever stated, but it's at least implied...
The Cardassian Union
The Talarian Republic

So we have a basic understanding of all the main members except maybe the Talarian Republic, but I'm more interested in the efforts of cooperation and understanding that should result from such an alliance in the face of a new political situation.

I've always anticipated a future Federation-like entity that contains Klingons, Cardasians, Romulans, and Ferengi as members or allied powers and the current political climate as a result of the Typhon Pact's formation only strengthens that possible future into one day becoming a reality.

So, will we be seeing more of the Alliance side of things as the story progresses, or is this not really an alliance, but more an idea on paper?

One of my favorite moments of late was where President Bacco is talking with the ambassadors of all the Major Powers (especially Garak) and I'm hoping to see more of that sort of thing moving forward in the next couple of years.

^ In actuality, the Khitomer Accords consists of the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. In A Singular Destiny, UFP President Bacco and Klingon Chancellor Martok invited the leaders of the Imperial Romulan State, the Ferengi Alliance, the Talarian Republic, and the Cardasian Union to discuss a possible expansion of the Accords, and Empress Donatra and Grand Nagus Rom immediately accepted the invitation to such a summit. But as of the "current" state of the Star Trek literary universe (roughly 2381-2382), an expansion of the Accords has not taken place.

This sounds a bit like FASA's "Federation Grand Alliance" from their old TNG Officer's Manual. They postulated that the United Federation of Planets and the Free Worlds of Klinzai (nice!) had merged into a super-Federation, based on the hints dropped in season one of TNG.

Maybe in Treklit we'll see old enemies (the Cardassians or half the Romulan Empire, perhaps?) joining the Federation proper, as foretold in several glimpsed alternate futures.

Though Zero Sum Game does have the Romulan's refer to the Aventine as a "Khitomer Powers ship" which seemed a slightly strange name if there has been no additions to the Pact in the time between Singular Destiny and the Typhon Pact books.

(I say slightly strange as if the Pact is still just Fed/Klingons, then, well, it has been that way for a long time and never once refered to in this manner, so seems strange to me to start now).

I like that term, "Khitomer Alliance." I hope they use it! :techman:

And I do hope that the membership of the Alliance will increase. Not only does it simply make sense - to counter the growing threat of the Typhon Pact - but I like the idea of the Federation becoming a player in a larger organization.

And I hope that the Pact grows in size to counter the threat of the Khitomer Alliance nations.

Ah, okay.

I assumed from the mentions of "Accepting" immediately, they decided to become Alliance members. (I guess I was projecting what I already knew at the time from reading the forum with what was happening in the story.

Also, Zero Sum Game's mention of Khitomer Powers had me thinking the Alliance had been fully formed by that point to counter the Pact.

Any indication if the Alliance will discussed in future books? I'd really hate for it to get left out, in a lot of ways, it's a bigger hook for me than the pact itself.

I've been a fan of the Honor Harrington books by David Weber for several years now, so the politics between star nations tend to be an important and interesting part of what precipitates the action-adventure moments.

I just assume one of these days we'll see what the Cardassians are up to. Or not. Seems their allegiance is too big to leave alone for long.

I thought what the Cardassians were "up to" was struggling to recover and rebuild their Dominion-devastated society with Federation aid. They've pretty much become the interstellar equivalent of a third-world nation. I can't see them being a major power again anytime soon, let alone reverting to their traditional antagonistic status.

True - but it's been 7 years now, in-universe. Bajor seemed to have recovered quite a bit in that same time frame on the show.

^And if Cardassia has substantially recovered, it's with Federation help. I think they're more likely to fall into the "allied" column, or at least the "neutral" column, than the "up to no good" column.

Oh, no, I'd absolutely agree with that. Sorry I didn't say so. I'm very interested in seeing stories of a 'new' Cardassia.

I'd just like to point out that I love the name 'Cardassian'. I could just say it over and over: Cardassian Cardassian Cardassian. It's a wonderful WOODY sort of species name. Not like Ferengi or Human, dreadful TINNY names... ;)

Does that mean you like the Kardashian family?

That's more of a plastic name.

Yep, in that case, it's a FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE! ;)

Besides, their name just sounds like somebody trying to say 'Cardassian' while drunk.
