The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

A crazy thought but since Craig hung up his PPK we're now had three new Doctor Whos

Tennant
Gatwa
Piper?

I wouldn't put us having a fourth before we get a new Bond.
Of course, when Craig was cast in October 2005, Tennant still had to make his first full appearance in The Christmas Invasion, while NTTD came out 2 months before Jodie announced she was leaving, and over a year before her final full appearance.

Yeah and you're going to have a bigger turnover of actors in Who as opposed to Bond. Just feels more obvious at the moment!
The coincidences that have always struck me are firstly that Dalton and McCoy were in a stage play about 1985 and apparently spent some time lamenting the insecurity of the acting profession. Within a year, each was the lead in a long-running franchise - but each of their roles were put on hiatus by 1989.

You then have the two gritty incarnations, Craig & Eccleston, appearing in 1996 (the year after Goldeneye and the same year as the DW tv movie) in Our Friends In The North; I think if anyone had said at the time that we were looking at the next James Bond and Doctor Who, they would’ve been laughed out of town.

In much the same way there are some people in Britain known to display pictures of the current monarch in their home, with some also including the picture of the current Prime Minister, or people in the US displaying a picture of the current President, I wonder if there are those who display pictures in their home of the current Bond and the current Doctor? If so, the picture of Craig must be hella faded right now while this weekend they just swapped out a new picture for the current Doctor.

Or is the frame for the Bond photo currently empty to reflect that with Craig's era over and a successor not cast, the Bond franchise is currently in a state of interregnum?

I'm just hoping that someone who has had a string of pictures, from Boris Johnson to Kier Starmer, is getting the help they clearly need medically.

Is it just me or in the first reveal of his face does Bond look a bit like a cross between Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Daniel Craig?

Probably just my imagination, but I do wonder if they consciously put little bits of previous Bonds into the likeness mix. I guess we'll know more once they announce who actually played him in the game. For all I know, this is what the dude actually looks like. :D

Bond is probably played by Patrick Gibson, who played Dexter in 'Dexter Origin Sin'. black actor is Lennie James, who played Morgan in The Walking Dead TV series for years.

Even though Dalton is my favourite Bond I still disagree with some of that (I can absolutely see Moore stripping a woman to distract a bodyguard, especially in his earlier films).

And I thought while Fleming was unsure of Connery when he was cast he warmed to him almost immediately (to the point where Bond's Scottish heritage was added to the books)

It's not about Bond, but it's still interesting news. By the way, 'theaters' will show 12 films next year, not 10. The head of Amazon TV distribution was wrong about that too.

I've had some free time this week, and so I'm (re)watching the Daniel Craig films (going to finally watch No Time to Die tonight or tomorrow). While Casino Royale and Skyfall are still his best films, Spectre came across a lot better than it did back in 2015. Some elements still made me roll my eyes (especially the way they retconned the previous films so that it was all part of a big SPECTRE plot), but two things raised the film in my estimation:
  • The relationship between Bond and Madeleine Swann. Craig and Léa Seydoux have really good chemistry, and she's up there with Tracy di Vicenzo as one of my favorite Bond girls. I could absolutely believe him walking away from MI6 to go have a life with her.
  • Recent events involving the so-called "Department of Government Efficiency" and increased scrutiny of the federal government's contracts with various Elon Musk companies and especially Peter Thiel's Palantir Technologies made the whole Nine Eyes plotline feel eerily prescient as it depicts a computer system with virtually unlimited access to information being co-opted by people who maybe don't have the best of intentions.
I'm not ready to re-rank the films (at least not until after I've had a chance to watch and digest NTTD), but Spectre definitely moved up a couple spaces from wherever it was.

It is weird that Madeline left me cold in Spectre but since NTTD I've just adored Lea Seydoux.

They do have chemistry but they're together five minutes before they're madly in love.

I mean, it's a movie. Presumably there were long stretches while they traveled (from Austria to Tangiers and then Tangiers to wherever Blofeld's secret base was in the Sahara) where they connected that we don't get to see.
