The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

Never Say Never probably should count, especially now Eon no longer own the franchise. (in fact I wonder of Amazon would give some thought to producing a newer edition that maybe inserted a gun barrel and rescored it to include the Bond theme. I have no idea if this is even something you can legitimately do to an existing film but obviously at the same time they could remove the slide whistle from TMWTGG)
and put the correct song in Spectre while you're at it

Anything but that three minutes of mewling from Smith. Worst. Bond theme. Ever.
I hated it at first but it grew on me. I’d say the worst Bond theme is Madonna’s Die Another Day.

Although I’m a fan of Jack White, I rate WOTW ahead of his duet with Alicia Keys for QOS as well as ahead of Billie Eilish’s NTTD song.

Maybe I just don’t like song titles with Die in the title.

Smith's song isn't terrible, but it is really bland, Madonna's track is objectionably worse.

I was kinda disappointed with Eilish's.

I actually kinda like Another Way to Die. I think it fits with QoS because it has a raw, unfinished edge to it...much like the film.

I know a lot of people think Adele's was too on the money but I really liked it.

You Know My Name is the best Bond track of the 21st Century and, IMO, one of the top five of all time.

I should have known someone would have already done this...

Paul McCartney would like a word
The exception that proves the rule!

Craig’s run contributed two great theme songs to the catalog, and these are them.
I was initially underwhelmed by YKMN until a local covers band played it when I was out one night and I remember thinking “this is bloody brilliant.”

Adele’s one is the best Bond theme song since Carly Simon’s Nobody Does It Better, IMHO.

I absolutely loved “The World Is Not Enough.” It’s even better once you realize it’s narrating Elektra’s voice and POV.

“A View to a Kill” is aces also.

And though I can’t claim it’s top-tier musically, “The Living Daylights” is a sentimental favorite. Great instrumental use of it throughout Barry’s score, too.

I think it's sad that one of my favourite Bond themes never made it to the opening titles, even though its melody is present all through the movie and it fits the visuals perfectly:

Also featuring a brief appearance by Leonard Barr as a comedian who goes on after Redford's stripper girlfriend.

I think Quantum of Solace is deeply mediocre as a film, but also I think the Jack White and Alicia Keys theme song slaps. The best thing about that movie.

Crow's song is strong but damn Surrender is SO much better. At least it did get used, if only over the end credits.

On the subject of other music in Bond films, I do like Aha, but credit to The Pretenders for their two songs in The Living Daylights, especially Where Has Everybody Gone (is this the one and only example of a villain getting his own song?) which is superb.

For actual title tracks my top 5 (setting aside the Bond theme obviously) would be as follows:

1. OHMSS orchestral by John Barry
2. A View to a Kill
3. You Know My Name
4. Live and Let Die
5. Goldfinger

Do people have guilty pleasure tracks? i.e. the ones everyone else seems to think are shit? It gets a lot of bad press but I really love Lulu's.

Man With The Golden Gun is my #2 track and I'm not even slightly guilty about it.

Oh hang on, we're setting aside the Bond theme itself? #1 then.

After that it's Live and Let Die, You Know My Name, Skyfall, and A View to a Kill.

One of the things I love about the score for The Living Daylights is that John Barry completely integrated all three songs — the main title by a-ha, and the two songs by The Pretenders — into his score, and it really pulls the whole film together.
