The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

I wonder why they edited the braces out.

BTW why was she even on the space station?

Does documentation exist that they were edited out? How was this achieved? Reshoots? CGI?

Speculation abounds that they were removed to prevent her from looking like a minor. Jaws is definitely a killer, but a predator, too? This might complicate his redemption toward the end of the story. And this makes the edit a perfectly valid and necessary choice so as to enable the audience to buy into his reform.

Problem is, I remember Dolly wearing braces. I remember groaning and laughing when she smiled at him with the metallic gleam that matched his own. Jaws found his soulmate!

She was on the space station because Jaws probably negotiated her presence there. Was Drax really going to argue with him before the shuttles departed?

Anyhow, if there are two official versions of this scene that exist in the studio vault my mind won't be so freaked out.

Well if that video is real apparently there are two versions, now I'll have to watch the film again haha...... I am pretty sure my version has the braces. I got the set with all 20 original films as The James Bond collection all digitally remastered.

Why are people debating this now in 2025?

And Lazenby's Bond slept with all those women at Piz Gloria after he was in an official relationship with Tracy!

Next up: what is the most egregious use of product placement in a Bond film?

My answer will always be the Norelco shaver Bond uses to refresh himself with in Die Another Day. I felt I was watching a commercial! It was as awful as the box of Cheerios Martha Kent puts out for Clark in Superman - The Movie.

Two jump out at me:
  • The American Motors dealership in Bangkok in The Man with the Golden Gun (I haven't been able to find any evidence that AMC had a legit presence in Southeast Asia apart from that movie)
  • In Tomorrow Never Dies, when Bond and Wai Lin hire the boat to take them around the various coves in search of Carver's stealth boat, Bond makes the comment "I wonder if he'll take a check?" This only makes sense if you've seen the ad where Brosnan and Desmond Llewelyn (in character as 007 and Q) plug Visa check cards.

Yeah, those are terrible!

J W Pepper shopping for a car in Bangkok is rather an odd thing to do on a vacation.

The less said about Desmond Llewelyn plugging debit cards in character, the better.

Didn't Die Another Day have a problem with blatantly obvious product placement in general? I remember it quickly earned the nickname Buy Another Day.

Though truth be told, movies in the early 2000s had a problem with making the product placement stick out like a sore thumb. I'm looking your way, I Robot.

Not really the first time Bond has done that, the ticker tape Seiko watch which was prominent in the opening of I think The Spy Who Loved Me, and was an actual real watch made just for the movie. I don't even think it was available to the public despite lots of people wanting one
