The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

I'd go '80s or 1960s. The Man from UNCLE showed you can do a modern, big-budget production as a period piece and have it work.

How about having him be a spy again? The closest recent flirtation where Bond would play pretend was in Casino Royale where he booked himself at the hotel and right away abandons his cover identity.
I'll admit to being a little nostalgic for the flimsy cover stories that bad guys saw through in about five seconds, and the goofy secret phrases Bond would trade with his contacts when they met up.

The Man from UNCLE lost the studio $80 million. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it but it didn't 'work' with a wider audience. Whether it'd be different with Bond is another question I guess.

Always assuming Bond himself didn't tear through his cover and make sure the villain knew he was onto him right away (see Brosnan's quips to Carver about being adrift and lost at sea for example)

Is Antarctica the only continent Bond hasn't visited yet?

Australia?

The Man with the Golden Gun may have taken place entirely on the Asian continent.

Yep, the scene in M's office may have been the only scene in the entire film to not happen in Asia.

I mean, technically Licence to Kill might but since we don't know if the country of Isthmus is supposed to fill in for Panama and whether or not it's located in North or South America we can't say for sure if that film happens on one or two continents(two or three if we include the brief scene of London and M's office).

OHMSS takes place completely in Europe.

FYEO does as well, apart from a snippet in Moscow.

FRWL is an odd one given Turkey sits across two continents. You could argue it takes place completely in Europe, but just as easily argue it doesn't!

I guess it depends on whether the action ever crossed over to the Asian side of Istanbul.

And now that I think about it, I don't think they've ever filmed in Australia. So that's two continents.

In my head canon Isthmus is supposed to be Panama so I guess LTK is a one-continent story if we don't count M and Moneypenny's scene in London.

Like I said, Australia (I did double check because the continent contains Papua New Guinea etc but there definitely doesn't seem to be any crossover with Bond.)

Didn't McClory's plan for Warhead 2000 mention filming in Australia?

I don't remember, to be honest. And I was probably thinking of Mission: Impossible 2 when I was thinking they'd done a Bond movie in Australia. (And let's face it, Ethan Hunt is basically an American James Bond.)

There's the big meeting somewhere between the Americans/Russians etc, but that could be anywhere!

There's all that snow outside with what look like early warning radars but that could be Canada for all we know.
