The IT Crowd Ep402 "The Final Countdown"

I enjoyed it, but it felt tired somehow. Roy's storyline had an obvious outcome, Moss's was just weird (but very funny) but Jen's was silly; after all this time, and even when Roy suggests orgy does Jen still not get what's happening? (even if he was slightly off).

Good, but average outing. 6/10.

Funny that the first thing I notice in the box of junk is an old copy of the GTO manga.

Funny though, Countdown is a word game? What was that Carol Vordeman (sp) game then?

Yes it's a real game show, based on a 1965 French game show (still running) called "Des Chiffres et des Lettres".

I guess I always just assumed that it was a math based game for some reason.
It's a spelling and maths game, there's rounds of letters and rounds of numbers. The spelling you get 9 letters and have to make a word, the maths element you get 5 (I think) numbers and you have to use them to make a randomly generated number.

This is going to confuse Australians who will be expecting Molly Meldrum!

;)

Not their best effort but watchable. The bits with Roy and window cleaning were a little bit too telegraphed and the stuff with Moss did that classic American SNL mistake of going on a bit too long.

Finally, the Macs/Windows line made me groan. That was a LONG way to go 'round the houses for a pretty pedestrian punchline.

^ Oh yeah, they tried for another long tail joke with that final line. I can't believe I didn't see that one coming.

I thought it was really funny, but I really did get a sense of deja vu with the Moss/Countdown bit...felt very much like the Spaced/Robot wars gag, even down to the 'The first rule of...' joke is.

It still was very good though, but mainly just for the Moss bits. The Roy story, as said, was a long way to go for a poor joke...and really why's Roy so bothered, I'm not a window cleaner, I sit in a basement doing IT support? And the less said about Jen's story the better I think...

Didn't care for Roy and Jen's stuff this week, but I loved the Moss stuff. As Starkers said, there was a touch of Spaced/Robot Wars about it, but I still loved it.

In any case, I've been a fan of Benedict Wong for ages, and he was one of the best things about this episode.

I wasn't feeling the episode during the first half, but in the second half I found the Countdown material hilarious. The Roy and Jen stuff didn't work so well.
