the intro...

I don't think "Archer's Theme" works as opening credits music because it's too "reflective". It's a contemplative character piece. IF they were going to go orchestral for the theme, they needed a good "marchy" piece or something inspirational.

Look up the theme from "The Cape" online, for a good example of what I'm talking about.

I liked the first version of the theme song but I can't stand the second version. I always fast forward the opening credits if I'm watching season two or three episodes.

I liked "Archer's Theme" but I agree that it wouldn't have worked as the main theme.

I have been a late-comer to Enterprise starting out only this christmas with a half-season DVD set of first season and liking the series far more than I expected.

Anyway: I was wondering what kind of ship we see just at the end of the main title sequence just before we see NX-01 go to warp? The one with the many blueish engine outlets? Can't be the Enterprise, or am I wrong?

The implication of everything I've seen about the opening has been that that is the SS Valiant.

I liked the theme before they messed around with it for S3, but I think I would have liked it better had they gone with an orchestral version of it for the opening, and used the actual song for the closing.

Not there yet, will have to wait for that until I get my DVD sets.

Wasn't there a different theme music at the end of "Broken Bow" than they used for the later episodes? If I recall correctly they used an orchestral version of the Main Title song for the end credits of the pilot. Is that available on the official soundtrack?

Thanks! That seems to fit ;)

Cut -

Yes - there was an instrumental version of the 'Faith of the Heart' at the end of "Broken Bow" - I mentioned it earlier in the thread. It was like listening to any watered down muzak in the line at the grocery store and unfortunately held no potential to help the music needs of the show, or Trek, in any way, shape, or form. As someone who produces music for various media on a daily basis - that version was the "oops, we ran out of time and don't want the version with the lyrics playing for a second time at the close, too, so let's get in front of those synthesizers and get something done real quick so we can get this thing out the door..." Plus, it was Faith of the Heart, just spun another way... Why not anything else - why not something new that's sweeping and broad and worthy of the pilot we'd just seen? Heaven forbid they dip into the Star Trek library and use some of the excellent material from there to tie some things together, at least in music.

(Cut-- Please don't think I don't respect your opinion to like or enjoy the instrumental 'Faith of the Heart', I just happen to have a strong opposing opinion for a number of different reasons. To each his/her own. And to answer your question - I am not sure if that version made it on any soundtrack-if it did-I missed it.)

It seemed obvious when Archer's theme premiered in the second full episode that they ran out of time getting it done for the premiere episode - and I think many of us were grateful for it's appearance and addition to the musical lexicon of Star Trek.

Is there something wrong with me since I like the Enterprise theme song?
I do, too - a lot. And I like Russell Watson's version better than Rod Stewart's original. But I don't quite think it was right for the theme.

If they had to go with a popular tune, seems like they'd have done better with "Magic Carpet Ride", and a somewhat different montage.

Has anyone seen the Virgin 1 promos for Enterprise the past couple of weeks, using certain clips they actually throw in a line about how cool the series is but mention the shame about the theme tune.

The intro was jarring for me when I first watched Ent. although I like the lyrics and tune. It seemed mismatched nevertheless.

However, I grew to like it. It put Ent in an entirely different light from the other STs. Didn't like the later version of the song tho. I was knocked off again and didn't get back on. :p I just skip the intro nowadays.

To be honest I didnt mind the song at first but it seemed out of place. It sorta grew on me and had a degree of reverence to it when matched with the visuals.

S3 and S4 ...um..I hated the more upbeat rocka billy version, it never matched the teasers which were dark and threatening at times and then....YAY! cue upbeat rocking theme music...

its a tad jarring :P

The Mirror Universe Parody was actually the better of the three

Just my two cents

...is GOLD!

I absolutely LOVE the Enterprise intro. The song, and the images that go with it- it's so inspiring.

It kind of summarizes not only Trek as a whole, but also humanity as a whole...becuase it has been a long time. :-)

That's really all I have to say -- unrelenting admiration for possibly the best Trek intro.
I have to agree wholeheartedly with you. For a while, I thought I was the only one who understood what they were trying to do. I particularly liked the Season 3 & 4 version better than the Season 1 & 2 version.
