the intro...

Lieutenant Commander

...is GOLD!

I absolutely LOVE the Enterprise intro. The song, and the images that go with it- it's so inspiring.

It kind of summarizes not only Trek as a whole, but also humanity as a whole...becuase it has been a long time. :-)

That's really all I have to say -- unrelenting admiration for possibly the best Trek intro.

Thumbs up for the visuals, thumbs down for the audio. Trek doesn't need pop music for its opening credits.

yes, the song did suck initially. it was one of my turnoffs of the show. kind of like Celine Dion "my heart will go on" was a huge Titanic turnoff for me.

Years later, i've learned to just skip the intro... unless it is the revised, upbeat S3-S4 intro. That is solid gold stuff, at least 10x better (dare i say.... a million times better?). the intro should get you excited for the show, not want to puke (i'm looking at you, S1-S2).

10x (and even a million times) Zero is still Zero. That song is a stinker.

Ah! I love the song - mostly for the lyrics.

I will admit that the tune gets old quick, but it's not horrible!

It definitely threw me a bit the first time I heard it, but after a while I really grew to like it, especially the more upbeat version they used later on.

It's a very cheesy song, but the lyrics fit in with Archer's past nicely. I hated the upbeat version that they started to use even though season 3 had more of a downbeat, serious feel.

I like the lyrics but got tired of the song. Anyone who avoids the show because of the opening is too superficial to be a part of Star Trek Nation.

I quite like the song, but don't think it fits well with the show at all. Maybe if they wanted to use it a 'one off' might have been worthwhile. But the tone of the show and the tone of the music doesn't really work too well, especially after season one.

I press skip DVD right before the intro starts so I don't even have to hear the first note. Diane Warren, while one of the world's most successful and talented pop songwriters (...what I wouldn't do to have 1/8th of her catalog...) is stylistically not who i would've gone with for a Star Trek intro. (I know she didn't write it for Enterprise, and as such she bears no responsibility for it's selection. TPTB are solely responsible for its licensing...)

I, however, do like the visual work during the intro, though it is highly US slanted. Would've liked to have seen some more international efforts reflected in there. (Yes, I know it is a US TV show...;))

(i agree with those who think a reversal of the version from S1-2 and S3-4 would've made more stylistic sense.)

(No, I've never been one to avoid the show because of it's theme, but can say I can see where it would be misleading to those first watching the show. I rolled my eyes the first time I heard it during the 'Broken Bow' premiere. And - to top it off - that's when they had the "muzak" version of it going during the closing credits too. No Archer's theme to offset it somewhat.)

My personal theme favorites are the mock-up intro that startrek.com did sometime during the fourth season (i think) and the (although only one-off appropriate) mirror universe intros.

Archer's theme was a nice piece. I always thought it would make a much better opener; much more traditional.

I rolled my eyes too, I was almost in shock! I'd heard about it of course but it was still a big wtf moment. But Broken Bow was such a great pilot ep, it thrilled me to bits. What initially turned me off ENT was some of the more boring eps that followed, the mundane stories.

But I got over all of that and I love the whole package now.

the mirror episodes intro was fantastic. the normal intro should have used some similar audio.

I've actually gone so far as to edit out "Faith of the Heart" on my recordings and replace it with the original orchestral theme (on the Broken Bow soundtrack as "Archer's Theme"). It actually works much, much better, to the point where the actual opening is horribly jarring.

And I still think it was idiotic to make the song more upbeat and cheery for the dark and gritty season. I damn near got whiplash, going from the destruction of Earth or a midnight lynching to that damn drum kit loop they added.

I didn't mind the intro, but I thought that it was a bit odd that in season 3, when enterprise suddenly turned into a dark program they made the intro really upbeat.

Personally, I always hated the theme. It always made me think 'Titanic' too. For those who did like it, perhaps an acceptable fix would have been to switch 'Faith of the Heart' to the end credits and 'Archer's theme' to the open? Then there's a better (or at least more consistent) theme to go in with and something more upbeat to go out on.
