The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker threats

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

Damn it! What am I supposed to go see with the family over the Christmas break now? F***ing The Hobbit?! :vulcan:

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

^
Unless New Zealanders suddenly decide that the portrayal of Middle Earth is offensive and hack MGM. ;)

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

It looked like a pretty bad movie but now I kind of want to see it.

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

Maybe the lawyers'll work out a Christmas day VOD rental release...

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

Pathetic

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

Bigger publicity than they could've ever generated by themselves.

Sony could have this movie with streaming and cable companies over Christmas with DVD and Blurays out early in the new year.

Probably going to make more money than it would have otherwise...

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

This was never a movie I was going to rush out and see in the theaters, but it still seems pretty ridiculous to cancel the entire opening like that.

Even if it has been confirmed to be from North Korea, it's a MAJOR stretch to think they'd actually be able to attack any movie theaters in the US. I mean, come on.

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

I wasn't interested in seeing it but whenever or however it's released eventually then I'll see it. FU NK!

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

It wasn't so much about saving US movie theaters as saving Sony Pictures (what was left of it after the hacking, that is). Not to mention the lives of Seth Rogen, James Franco and everyone else who had anything to do with the film. One bullet from a sniper rifle can really ruin your day.

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

It’s Official: Sony Scraps ‘The Interview’

“In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release. We respect and understand our partners’ decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers.

So the movie isn't getting released, ANYWHERE. 44 million down the drain.

The bad news keeps coming for Sony.

It's probably the lawyers who are (indirectly) blocking this movie. Now that the threats have been made by NK, there may well be liability issues if any theater shows this film and anything bad happens as a result of that. Even if it's just some random psycho. Sony's doing this to cover its own ass.

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

Attention terrorists: Threaten violence and you get what you want.

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

I'm utterly shocked they would cave in like this. It's a major movie! It was going to do 100 million domestic! Threatening the theaters was a completely empty threat. I certainly was going to go see it in theater without a second thought.

And to not release it AT ALL? Not even on blu ray?!

"We have one rule, we don't negotiate with terrorists. We just give them what they want right away."

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

(CNN) -- There's a sad irony in the fact that one of the great tests of America's freedom of speech should involve a movie that, according to some reviewers, utterly sucks.
Variety calls "The Interview" an "alleged satire that's about as funny as a communist food shortage, and just as protracted." Yet this "comedy" about two TV guys tasked with assassinating North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has sparked a cyberterror campaign that amounts to extortion.

It never ends. And it always seems to happen that new ways to "play" are created and reacted to.

North Korea Wins?

This is the current headline at CNN's site.

Guess the answer is "Yes!"

Now, I am not presenting my position as one of supporting the idea, fictionally and humorously or not, of assassination of anyone. There are laws and flaws and hems and haws and just cause and unfortunately, it does not always turn out bad for the Bad Guys. But this? This is...jesus, I do not even know what to call it. The Press is calling it "extortion" but I do not think it is. It is more fundamental than that. Totalitarian? The Hack Heard 'Round the World?" What is next? Cummerbuns coming after me because I refer to him as Cummerbuns? eesh!

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

Probably the best response to Sony cancelling showings of The Interview comes from Alamo Draft House, as they will show Team America: World Police instead.

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

I'm sure they'll eventually do what they did with Red Dawn: they'll go in remove any mention of North Korea or Kim Jon Un and then release it; probably right to home video.

Would it involve re-shoots? Probably. Unless they can CGI their lips differently whenever they say the name of the guy. Or, more hilariously, they could just bleep it out every time they say it! They should do that! Turn his name into a curse word!
