The Interpretation of Dreams Thread™!

Question: Do your dreams affect the quality of your sleep, or do you not let them bother you? Sometimes I have these disturbing dreams (not necessarily nightmares), and I wake up in the morning feeling unsettled and unrested. I'm also thinking that maybe the stormy winter weather here in Northern CA is making me feel different, like anxious, moody, irritable, lethargic. :scream:

It affects me in the opposite way to you, drone. Dreaming revitalizes my mind, whatever the stories are.

I've never had nasty dreams though, or dreams that detract from my sleep or hang over me. If I don't dream for a long time then I will start to feel dream deprived, which is the only way I can describe that feeling.

Moderate doses of codeine will make me dream normally, but for most people people it makes their dreams unpleasantly vivid.

Also I've noticed that doing something mentally challenging makes me dream more normally, like a load of hard maths questions for a few hours before going to sleep.

In fact, I'm going to try that each night for the next week or so, so if anyone wants anything working out... :p

It's funny you mention that. Recently I acquired a book of Killer Sudoku which I had been ploughing through at bedtime, and at the time my dreams had come frequently, if not particularly memorably, with the occasional vivid dream that stays with me throughout the day.

Well, I felt that I had a "better" night's sleep last night. The funny thing is, I don't recall ever having any weird dreams. It's like I slept like a baby through the night, feeling more refreshed when I got up.

Okay, here's one for you guys: last night I dreamed I was watching NASCAR racing in my grandmother's apartment with Barack Obama. My family was there, as was Secret Service, and we were all just chilling, having some beers, and watching the tube. I actually think the weirdest part is that we were watching car-racing -- I never watch car-racing.

Thoughts, anybody?

I think I have been playing WoW too much last night I had a dream about the game...but everything looked realistic...anyway I was on an adventure with a female night elf and it was crazy...the strange thing was after our adventure we went up into a home in a tree...don't know if it was mine or hers...then we just talked about random stuff...like stuff from the game and stuff from my life...really freaky. I am not sure how this happened but after we talked we ended up making love! Real good dream sex buy the way...then after that i was back out on an adventure with my pet but instead of a nightsaber or whatever it was my cat and he was real big...things got fuzzy after than...me and my cat did find a cave loaded with gold...not sure why though???

Okay I don't think this particular dream has any interpretation, but I would love to hear what other people think.

I was walking down the street where I grew up. I stopped off at one of the houses across the street form my house and I was going to sleep there, but there was some kind of party going on. So I decided to drag my pillows and comforter across the street to my house. I started with the pillows and when I got to my house there was a big dog in the front yard. At first he eyed me suspiciously and I didn't worry about it, but then he started barking at me. On the way back across the street I passed another house and on the sidewalk there were hundreds of small objects like some kind of fruit that I had to step over. I grabbed my comforter and started back. The fruit was gone from the sidewalk, but the dog was there now with another dog that was supposed to be his wife and they were both looking at me strangely. I walked on, but turned and looked back and there were dozens of strange looking puppies all over the lawn. Just then I noticed a really small chimpanzee around my leg. He wanted to play with me, but I was trying to blow him off.

I went in the house, laid on the couch, and started watching the Godfather. None of the scenes I was watching were actually scenes from the movie in real life but they were very vivid. Don Corleone was yelling about how he would never consider the girl who was Sonny's mistress in the movie part of the family. The next scene was Sonny talking to some lady about how he was an artist and was showing her his art. She was very impressed. Sonny then mentioned he was an atheist and the lady started crying and said it was impossible to be an atheist and an artist and she got up and left.

That's about it.

When you had sex, did you have "avatar sex," text-based sex, or the real thing?

Not sure what the symbols mean, but I've often had dreams about the "old house" I lived in when I was growing up in another country. All I can say is that there's some kind of nostalgia involved when you dream about your old home.

Speaking of which, I had a dream about my old house again. Every once in a while, I dream about my family's house in the old country and the pig pen we had in the back. I grew up in a rural, mostly agricultural area, and most people had their own vegetable gardens as well as livestock back then. When I dream about the "pigs" living in the cage, I often feel sympathetic to them. I look at how dingy their living space is and how they haven't been fed lately. Well, guess what? Last night I dreamt that one of the pigs (or the only pig in there) was dead. :( :( :( It would appear that he died of starvation, not having been fed in a long time.

Now personally, I don't know what the old house or the pigs represent in my dreams, but perhaps what they're trying to tell me is that there's something I need to nourish, take care of, and look after in my life. Could it possibly be my health? My friendships or family relationships? My finances? It's a very interesting concept.

I had a dream that I was a contestant in some sort of reality show (I hate reality shows).

I was standing in line waiting for my chance to perform some feat. We were always in the same position no matter what our ranking was. I was 10th in line, so there were two people behind me but I never had any idea what they looked like because I never turned around no matter how many times we were in line.

Half the contestants were British comedians but, despite the fact that I love British comedy, I hasn't seen any of these comedians on TV though I gather they were well known.

My grandmother was one of the contestants, she was in third position. This grandmother, in real life, was a nasty old biddy and I had a strange feeling she was the same in this dream but i never talked to her. My grandmother was not a comedian.

There was a man dressed up at Robin Hood who was in 5th postion. He was not a comedian. The only other contestants I remember was a very funny comedian in 7th position, and another comedian in 8th postion. He was really tall but very, very quiet. In 9th position was a short, plump Spanish woman who was always smiling. She was not a comedian. These last three mentioned were always turning around and waving at the camera which was behind me.

Then my grandmother got really sick and it looked like she would die. Then the really funny comedian got really sick as well and the commentator was talking about which of these two would die first. The comedian died and that is when I woke up.

PS I was not a comedian in this dream.

Ok, two recurring ones at the moment ~ or recurring parts in different situations.
I'm on a bike, it gets very hard to control and I realise the front tyre is completely shreaded. (I do not cycle!)
2nd, I'm trying to dial 999 on my mobile after a 'situation', or any other number, and it won't register it.
There may be a 'feeling out of control thing'??
Any ideas oh wise ones?

Re: The Interpretation of Dreams Thread™!

Just woke up to one in fact. And it involved LOST, interestingly, in that some of the characters (most notably Jack and Hurley) were in the dream.

In this dream, I was one of the islanders, only this time we all had our own cars and were trying to escape from our local accommodation using a perfectly crafted plan involving each others' cars, only to start to leg it once things got worse and the others were onto us. Eventually everyone left the area except myself and my own car, but I was about to leave only to realise that my younger sister was still in the area - that, plus another person (possibly the love interest in the dream). So I called to my sister, asking if she was still there and why she hadn't left (it was clear she was working for the Bad Guys) then climbed up to her room to find her and encourage her to take her home, all the while aware that I still had to do the same for my Love Interest who was in another building.

Quite definately a HEROES complex ~ you're getting your tv shows muddled up :p

^^^

Dreams involving movies and TV shows or movies are hard to interpret (if they require any interpretation at all) or take seriously, especially since the details are based on what you saw on screen.

Interesting dreams you have, K'Ehleyr, especially if such dreams are recurring.

The bicycle symbol could mean some kind of "vehicle" in your life, not necessarily cars, but a personal tool, trait or quality that helps you accomplish or do your tasks on a regular basis. The flat tire could mean a form of obstacle or impediment in the way you accomplish your task.

The cell phone dream resonates more anxiety than the first one. Why don't the numbers register? Is there a signal problem or the phone simply isn't working? The phone could mean communication. The numbers might represent the people (family/friends, colleagues) you're attempting to reach or "get through to." The lack of registration could be a "failure to communicate" with such people. That's my take. ;)

Iguess that depends on how important the actual show is in the dream.

In my pre-mentioned dream about being on a reality show I would imagine that the show itself is of little importance.

Even Zion Ravescene's dreamis quite removed from the show. I would sy that the island might represent isolation and he was seeing everyone leaving for a different life but cannot himself because he has commitments to people he cares about.

I have dreams of my old family house quite often. Unfortunately they are not happy, smiley ones either. If your pigs are in a cage, maybe you felt restricted growing up there? Or you feel the need to look after someone who you feel that is in that situation? Someone who is being overlooked? You?
That's what I love about interpretation of dreams ~ the more ideas you throw at it, hopefully one will make you think Oooooh...

Which is what you have done for me here.

It seems so clear now. I am having a huge problem with my son, who isn't listening to me. He is 17 and verging on getting into real trouble with the police and as much as I say, reason, threaten, there is no getting through to him ~ no communication.

Which is why the other dream signifies I cannot accomplish my task. My 'vehicle of motherhood' is broken :(

In a way I love these dreams, because if you look deeply inside you know what they are about really. Your subconscience is telling you, in a really frustrating way.

Here's an odd one from last night. As you may or may not know, my job requires me to work with classroom teachers who teach grades K-2. I go into different classes and teach an hour long lesson to each class twice a week.

Last night I dreamed that I brought a movie for my kindergarten class to watch. I was so excited to show it to them as it was one of my favorite movies when I was a child (in the dream, there is no such film in real life). I'd talked it up to their classroom teacher, Vivian, for days. But when we watched the film it was completely inappropriate! To begin with, it was subtitled. The first scene took place in a prison and involved a subtle but clearly interpretable sex act between cell mates, and it just got worse from there. I kept thinking, "Gosh, I don't remember it being this bad!" and wondering when Vivian would turn it off. In the meantime, all the kids watched it with rapt attention.

Oh TSQ, I'm really just throwing random things out here but... it does come across that you would secretly like to shock Vivian and see how far you could go? The film is set in a prison because you feel trapped and is subtitled because you can't voice your feelings? And the kids watch enraptured because they want something else too?
Maybe I'm getting carried away with this

^There's probably validity in the idea that the prison setting represents my feeling trapped, and some of those feeling associated with my job, but not in the way you think. I love what I do, get on well with all my co-teachers (especially Vivian), and I am very confident about what I bring into the classroom. I do feel trapped financially by my career. I get paid $50 an hour, but only work during the school year, 4 days a week, and have no health insurance.

I feel trapped in regards to most aspects of my life, though.
