THE HOBBIT (2012/2013): News, Rumors, Pics Till Release

It's been a couple months since we last had a thread on this, so I figured rather than resurrect one of those, we could start up a new thread for all news, pics, and other related miscellany until the first film's release, because...

Filming has begun on 'The Hobbit.'

Finally! For a while it seemed like this project would never get off the ground, and now cameras are rolling. Only another twenty-one months or so until release day!

Original post says 21 months away from release, so, it seems, for now, we expect it to be a Christmas 2012 release

The current plan is for part one to be released around Christmas 2012, with part two to follow in Christmas 2013.

Seeing those pics of PJ in Bag End made me all giddy. I'm incredibly excited that these movies are finally in production, after years of legal issues and other conflicts holding it back. It's too bad Guillermo del Toro couldn't stick around to direct, but I think Jackson's going to do a great job.

Was he diagnosed with diabetes or something? Granted a decade is a long time but that's some pretty drastic weight loss. Either way, good for him.

I don't believe so. He lost a lot of weight between the releases of ROTK and King Kong.

I'm surprised he didn't become one with the couch when he was editing the original trilogy. He looks great now, though.

I guess this isn't much of a surprise, since The Hobbit has had its actors, unions, New Zealand and director issues settled for a while now, but it seems that the whole Hobbit production has been fucked for so long, it's probably worth commemorating the first official day of filming. Or we can commemorate the incredibly smug set photo that director Peter Jackson just released, where he's sitting comfortably in a hobbit-hole with a look on his face that can only be described as "You thought it couldn't be done? I'm fucking doing it, shitstains. In fact, why don't you take this pipe and shove it up your ass, because I'm going to go and make some more of the fucking Hobbit now. Dickholes."
