THE HOBBIT (2012/2013): News, Rumors, Pics Till Release

Entertainment Weekly has released a couple new images.

The first one is actually our first look at the third movie in the series, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, featuring a familiar character:

The guy next to Legolas is a character called Bard the Bowman.

The second one, which they revealed on Facebook, is this shot of Gandalf and the Hobbits encountering the Goblin King:

I have to say, Bard looks nothing like what I would have imagined. He almost looks like Orlando Bloom in POTC. Interesting choice for the character.

He looks like Inigo Montoya there.

However, I pictured him based on the cartoon and that's hardly fair.

Because of Peter Jackson's approach, Bard has to be The Hobbit's version of Aragorn. That's why he looks like that and I think it makes perfect sense.

McKellan: "I don't know Gandalf's middle name."
Colbert: "Fifty Shades of."

^ Hilarious!

Almost as good: Legless Lego Legolas :guffaw:
Both moments left me in stitches. :guffaw:
Last night's visit by Andy Serkis was just as fun, that guy just embodies his characters. And Ian McKellan's five-second, three-word cameo was priceless. :)
Ian McKellan's brief surprise cameo was priceless. Yet another reason to love the guy for his willingness to do that bit.

Tonight's episode was also great. Colbert continues to show his devotion to all things Tolkien by getting Hobbit feet and teaching Peter Jackson about Tolkien lore.

Plus, we find out when PJ's cameo is (somewhere in the first 6, 7 minutes) and Colbert missed it!

YOU SHALL...pass...if you can. ;)

I also thought Luke Evans as Bard looked like Will Turner at first glance. Really threw me off at first.

Same here. For a second I was wondering who the blond elf was with Orlando Bloom, until I realized that was Legolas, and the other guy was Evan's Bard.

Interesting tidbit from the EW article:

"In the appendixes, Tolkien chronicles an epic battle at the stronghold of the Necromancer involving elves, giant spiders, orcs, and wargs. "One of the main protagonists in that is Galadriel," Boyens says. "We get to go there. We get to see it."

Does this mean Galadriel in Elvish armor?

Cate Blanchett looks awesome in armor. See Elizabeth: The Golden Age. :)

Wasn't there a quick shot of Galadriel in armor at the Dagorlad battle of Elves and Men with Sauron?

Damn, that sounds awesome. I don't remember the spiders aspect so clearly I need to reread the appendices again.

I honestly don't remember any of that either - other than the White Council (of which Galadriel is a member) being involved. The description, though, makes it sound like a ready-made, Film 2 finale.
