Yeah I think that is what Shore was going for...familiar but fresh and new as well. Can obviously hear the returning themes and cues from the previous scores, as well as brand new music created for the film. I think it's brilliant myself.
Amazing score. Simply wonderful to listen to. I don't get any sense of "filler" material on it. And the end Song of the Lonely Mountain is a great mix of emotions - dark and light. You can listen to it on its own here:

And before that, with his brother Tim in the NZ band Split Enz. But that was before most of the people here were born...He played in a band called Crowded House which used to be quite popular over here in Europe. But that was another century......had no idea who this Neil Finn is....
I've never done a mainstream Hollywood movie in IMAX, the only times I did IMAX were about a decade ago when all they showed were documentaries in museums, but Trek and Hobbit together might just be enough to get me to fork out the money.http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2012...arkness-9-minutes-with-the-hobbit-in-imax-3d/

But he's always been more songwriter than vocalist. It's a bit weird to hire him for his voice.Anyway, Neil's been writing great stuff for quite a long time.

I've read about it in an ancient history book.![]()
It seems to have been removed now. I didn't get around to listening to it yet.It should be noted that the Empire link contains only the standard or regular two disc release of the score, not the special edition which contains the bonus tracks or "Blunt the Knives".

Um, no, he's a songwriter, singer, and plays multiple instruments. He's a musician, and a damn talented one. He didn't just pop over to a studio and lay down vocals on someone else's music.
