Chaplin was (among other things) a gifted mimic, but he was supposed to have spent hours carefully studying newsreels of Hitler's speeches, in order to get the style and speech rhythms right, even though what he spoke in the film was mostly nonsense and gibberish.Very funny.
And very frightening what happens with me when I watch that.
I am German, and when I listen to what Hitler actually shouts I understand every word. But as soon as I concentrate on the captions I start only hearing "Schtonk speech" (The fake German from Chaplin's The Great Dictator. Amazing how accurate Chaplin was. I never realized!![]()
