The Good Wife, ep 1

Edit: Hey, whatever happened to Julius Cain? Did they just disappear the character out of contract dispute with the actor or did I forget that he left the firm?

He shows up in three more Good Wife episodes (episodes 18 and 22 in season 5 and episode 17 of season 6) plus five episodes of the spin-off's first season.

Wow, I can not believe who they killed off. Was it a contract thing or purely a writers' decision?

I don't know if people watching it as it was first airing already knew what was going to happen but it came completely out of the blue for me.

The actor gave the showrunners a heads-up over a year in advance that he wanted to move onto other creative endeavors. The writers chose the death of the character (as opposed to having the character go to prison or leave town) because they felt it would be a good way to jolt Alicia into the next stage of her life.

Does anyone know if The Good Wife is considered a realistic depiction of the legal system? It certainly *seems* more realistic than other crime and legal dramas, but I don't know if that's true or just good salesmanship.

I repeat, if it is a realistic depiction of the legal system, it is depressing as ****. Like, if I'm ever falsely accused of a crime, only a really good liar will set me free.

Julius Cain appeared in the episode, but wait, shouldn't he still work and whatever the original firm is now called? I remember David Lee officially joining Florrick Agos Lockhart but not Cain, did the writers forget for a moment that the firm even changed because everything else about it was reset?

Right now seeing some major parallels between Parks and Recreation storylines and these ones, is Alicia's stay as SA going to be anything like Leslie's stay on the city council, only less funny?

The way that arc turned out doesn't sit that well with me. It makes sense from a TV standpoint, yeah gotta keep the cast together can't let her exit the firm. But they didn't even give Alicia a chance to try out the job so it feels like a waste of a storyline.

Also I am starting to resent the way they keep teasing reconciliation between the main cast and ripping it away.

I hate it when shows emotionally jerk you around and it's starting to feel like that.

Yeah, I love The Good Wife, but Seasons 6 & 7 are definitely not my favorites. As with most shows, I find they peak with seasons 3-5.

Yeah, ever since Diane jumped back over it's felt like conflict for conflict sake. Not that it's bad, it just feels like these people shouldn't keep nearly reconciling then offending each other again.

And this new investigator, not that he's a bad character at all, just you can practically hear the writers thinking 'Ok how can we out-dark Kalinda?'

I've caught up to the point in the series we were at when I started this thread, six or so episodes left. (Whole reason I started this thread to talk about Good Wife without spoilers).

Diane wants Alicia to help her get out Cary. Can't we just screw David Lee somehow and let all the likable characters get along?

I find myself rooting for Peter to get his comeuppance somehow without hurting Alicia. Stop using that corrupt criminal for his name and just have your own career Alicia!

There's a spinoff right. Is that any good? Is that still going on?

Edit: After Wikipedia help. I was going to say, I wish Quinn came into the show earlier. She's in the spinoff too? Need to check this out.

That ending was decent but somehow unsatisfying. The implication seems to be that Alicia will do what Eli wants moving forward. She loses what she wants both career-wise and relationship-wise. Would have been nice to have some kind of happiness moving forward.

As I said, the last 2 seasons are definitely not my favorite. Michelle and Robert King have both said the series is really "The Education of Alicia Florrick," so I think they have a very cynical view of the world if these are the final lessons.
