The Golden Globes

I'm just relieved that Michael C. Hall finally won an award for "Dexter"--it was about time!

Me too, was he wearing that horrible hat because of cancer treatments?

Also John Lithgow won made me so happy.

I agreed with most of the winners, and don't really give a damn if they won or not. Avatar isn't the best movie, but 2009 was a shity year for movies, but I'm glad it won because it's beautiful, and a sci-fi movie.

I think he may have lost his hair due to the chemo, hopefully he makes a full recovery in time of production, but I'm sure they would just delay it until he does, regardless

I didn't watch the Awards (And really didn't follow it) but really liked Glee beating out 30 Rock. Both are my favorite shows, but 30 Rock this season hasn't been the best, and Glee is newer.

On The Hangover, it winning is unusual, but I'd call it legitimate. If you're going to have a "Best Comedy [or musical, but that's a pretty small genre these days]" prize, you should be prepared to recognize one of the dominant forms of comedy. Doing The Hangover well requires just as much art, in its own way, as a highbrow comedy (as proof, just look at how many films do lowbrow comedy wrong).

I agree. I was genuine suprise that The Hangover won, but happy that it did. It was a well-made comedy.

I loved that acceptance speech opener. "Now I'm going to get in a fist fight with the Wienstien Brothers" Pause "That's ok, I've got Mike Tyson." :lol:

I think that this was sort of a suprise win because The Hangover is the type of movie that is not recognized by these type of award shows.

The audience sounded suprise as well. Everybody seem to thought that Nine would be the winner.

If the various awards telecasts were guests at a party, the Golden Globes would be the life of it. You know what we mean…over the course of the annual awards cycle, we expect Oscar to bring the glamour, the VMAs to bring the scandal, and the BET Hip-Hop Awards to bring the cops. But the Globes telecast is freewheeling, unfettered, well-lubricated. It threatens to catch us off guard by dancing on a table with a lampshade on its head, perhaps while saying something that makes revered Oscar frown and seethe as he swirls the cubes in his tumbler of scotch. It’s a riot because it keeps everyone’s wine glasses full.

Last night, however, our old pal Golden seemed hung over before he even hit the door. The telecast felt like the longest three hours in the history of broadcasting and – here’s saying something – may actually have been outdone by the most recent Emmys telecast.

I love the way this article about the globes is written, that whole first paragraph is gold.:lol:

The best thing about Avatar winning is that it might get studios interested in making more sci fi films. It's a good victory for the credibility of our genre!

My genre is heartfelt drama. :p

I mean seriously a movie like A Beautiful Mind just destroys a movie like Avatar or Star Wars in terms of quality.

Right, because a billion dollars of profits from the movie wasn't quite enough to get their attention without the Golden Globe? :p

YES! :bolian::bolian::bolian:

Now I can put away the power tools and cancel that plane ticket to Hollywood. :p Onward to the Emmys!

Still can't believe nobody from Breaking Bad or Sons of Anarchy got nominations. The Golden Globes judges need to start watching all the shows, not just the Usual Suspects(TM).

^Hurt Locker.

I'll second that nomination sight unseen. I would be astonished if Avatar truly deserves that award. Oh well, don't the Oscars usually have somewhat better taste than GG?

The only two globes, the two reasons to watch this show

Drop dead gorgeous

Can you believe she's married to Geoffrey Arend?

This guy;

HO-LEEEE CRAP! I just recognized the guy - the geeky friend from (500) Days of Summer!!! :rommie:

I mean, talk about being out of his league! Kinda' gives hope to all the ugly guys out there, I guess. I hope he's thanking the horseshoe wedged tightly up his ass, lucky bastard.

Or thanking the 12" between his legs? Because....HO-LEEEE CRAP! The geeky friend from (500) Days of Summer??? :rommie:

Does anyone have the list of winners at the Golden Globes? I was so exhausted from working last night that I didn't have time and forgot to watch. Thanks!

Cameron deserves all the awards they can give him for Avatar. Certainly in terms of movie history it may as well have been the only movie released this year.

THIS.

I love reading the comment section of the site Temis posted up. The more I see people bitch about that movie, or about Cameron, the more I want it to win.

OH HE IS ARROGANT THEY SAY...the guy has made some of the most memorable movies in history, and done more then most directors to technologically transform the way that films are made.

Keep heaping on the praise award shows, the guy deserves it.
