The Global Football Thread

Sorry…work…mental.

Anyhow…what about that relegation battle now then?
Spurs doing their level best to get dumped out…City doing their best to keep Forest in and the Irons just doing enough to eventually kill me with hypertension.
My brother just got us tickets to go over to see the Everton game in April ..yay!

I wonder if Spurs will sack Tudor and get someone else in or just hope things turn around?

I can sorta see why they went for him, but going for a manager with zero experience of English football was a ridiculous gamble.

This could go down to the wire and I guess the one slight positive for Spurs is that they do have the best goal difference of the four, and it could come down to that.

If Spurs do look elsewhere who is there? Would a Cooper or a Dyche work short term?

Meanwhile having sacked three managers it looks like Marinakis is now getting rid of Edu as well!

But they might also be mad not to sack him!

Big Sam or maybe 'Arry returns? Feels like they'd be better off reaching out to Ryan Mason, maybe he could work with Tudor until the end of the season (or even replace him) Obviously failed at WBA (as did the guy after him which says something) but knows the club inside out and has managed Spurs short term before and got decent results.

Who knows maybe they already have approached him and he sent them packing.

Forest have Fulham at home and Tottenham away.

Back to back wins and Forest would have one foot in the PL next season and Tottenham would have one foot in the Championship.

It would be crazy to have Spurs in tier 2 of English football. The stadium payments alone, never mind the huge drop in income alongside a near total fire sale of the squad with all the recruitment that would have to follow. Spurs could easily remain in Championship beyond one season and then you would have to really worry for the future of that club.

One of the biggest disasters in PL history could be about to unravel.

I’ve been at Spurs a couple of times(ssshhh),it would be a financial Armageddon for them to go down.Amazing amazing stadium.
Conspiracies abound that some players are angling for the relegation that would trigger release clauses but holy moly has that level of cynicism infested the game?….probably unhappily yes.

Meanwhile the cup never fails to entertain, hoping for a result against Brentford(sorry ,not -sorryKeith Andrews).

If they go down , I reckon thars top spot accounted for next season on the Championship.

In fairness I think whomever goes down 3rd from bottom will likely win it next season.

Lincoln vs Spurs? Don't you love the football league how it can throw together such a potential match.

I'll be amazed if Tudor is still in post for Sunday's game at Liverpool. Whatever way you slice, it bringing in a young keeper who hasn't played a game since October and then subbing him off after 17 minutes is terrible management. Even setting aside that, Tudor seems to be another one of those tactically inflexible fanatics like Amorim!

If they do sack Tudor who's next? The obvious choice is another interim and hard to see anyone beyond Ryan Mason (if he's even interested).

Ideally they should hire their next manager now, trouble is Pochettino isn't available till after the WC and someone like De Zerbi or Glasner isn't going to take the job until it's certain he wont be managing in the Championship next season.

Strikes me the best option, if a little left field, might be Robbie Keane. Has a genuine affinity for the club and has achieved success in Israel and Hungary. The Spurs job is probably more of a step up than is ideal but under the circumstances it could work and he's unlikely to be put off by the idea of a championship rebuild if it's needed.

Iran appear to have confirmed they will not compete in the World Cup

And in other news 10 players who play for Jamaican team Mount Pleasant have been refused visas to allow them to play LA Galaxy in a Champions league clash. This despite the US promising players would be given exceptions to play in tournaments.

Yet Infantino and FIFA remain silent.

i wonder what country will take over for iran

No movement on Tudor so I imagine he's likely to be in the dugout against Liverpool. Heard at least one conspiracy theory that said he was being left in post so he takes the hit for Liverpool and then someone else comes in for the Forest game (which doesn't factor in the second leg against Atheltico).

Meanwhile Forest lose again and seemed to play a fairly strong team last night which surely is going to tire the likes of Gibbs-White, Murillo etc etc...

To date Pereira has a 16% win rate! I do accept that they're playing well but that scoring is a problem, but West Ham, for example, don't have the same issue and Spurs do have the likes of Richarlison and Solanke who can score (especially if a new manager comes in and gets their confidence up)

A lot of Forest fans seem to be putting a lot of faith in Chris Wood coming back in April but that's a lot of pressure to put on a 34 year old who hasn't played since late last year and presumably won't be remotely match fit.

Meanwhile in the Championship it looks highly likely that Coventry/Frank Lampard will be back in the Prem next season. Second place is a battle between Boro, Millwall(??) and Ipswich.

Technically Derby can make the playoffs but it feels like we're too inconsistent to have more than an outside shot and we may be reliant on other teams not winning.

Despite all their money and posturing Birmingham City seem unlikely to make the play offs, I foresee a new manager there sooner or later. Wrexham are irritatingly in the top 6 but I can't see them going up.

Play off wise my money would be on Southampton, they're outside the top 6 at the moment but they're in really good form. Even if Ipswich and Southampton do end up bouncing straight back at least there'll be one newcomer in Coventry. And while it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that Leeds go down as well as Burnley, Sunderland at least stayed up so the 'all the promoted teams go down' curse has been broken...for now!

Getting towards the pointy end now.
Not expecting much from our game against City…just hoping that Fulham can at least hold Forest.
Can Spurs get it up for Liverpool?

Just to say ..what a super week in the champions league. Not too good for the premiership sides but the football was great.Hard to look past PSG eh?
