The German Lounge

I’d love to visit, lots of interesting things to see.
I just read our prime minister Rutte will be attending the re-opening of the Semper Gallery today. I should have asked him for a ride. :D
Oh yeah, this is a big thing this weekend. Entry even will be free. I bet it will be crowded though. They have been at it for six years! I think I can wait a little longer ;)

Here's something for your amusement - German-English and English-German translations gone wrong:

Oh no no no, don't do that! lol I run away SCREAMING whenever I accidentally encounter German Trek dubbing!
Don't laugh, but there were moments when watching in German that there were some revelations, like when Worf recommends Kahless become "Imperator," not "Kaiser."

I won't even BEGIN to understand what was going on in the minds of those who translated the shows.

I think that they were reacting to the ceremonial position that Kahless would take, but they decided that Kaiser was too powerful to be an accurate description, so they chose the alternative (the word that describes having absolute authority in one's person).

I'm not sure they put this much thought into it. They probably thought "Imperator" matches the lip movements of "Emperor" much more closely than "Kaiser" does, which means it worked better for the dubbing, so, they chose it.

The only German dub that ever worked was for the Bud Spencer/ Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill movies, always more fun and with extra dialog than the original.

Yes! I agree with this. They really added some extra humor there. But pretty much everything else is just atrocious, at least to me. Dubbing just doesn't work for me.
