The Future Is Webisodes From The New Movies

I think the future of Trek would be webisodes.
These webisodes would be based off of the new movies and new timeline.
These webisodes woudn't have to be weekly and each episode need not be an hour long, just something short but sweet and which keeps people interested.

They could be based around the Enterprise either from the point of view of the main characters or secondary characters or they could be based around a different ship and crew and to save money they could use the current Enterprise props/bridge etc

Unless someone finds a good way to monetize online content, webisodes will never be a viable release method.

That might work for continuing a contemporary tv series, but I don't think any major studio would give away episodes of one of their main film cash cows when they can get your ten bucks for it.

They nearly went the webisodes route in 2006, with the animated series Star Trek: Final Frontier. Maybe whatever their reasons were for not doing it then are still reason not to do it now?

Could advertise them via facebook and other social media to get everyone aware of them.

There was the regime change at Paramount around that time (initiated by the split between Viacom and CBS). Like the ill-fated Star Trek: The Beginning movie, Final Frontier was a casualty of new management coming in with their own ideas.

Oh right, of course! Learning about them years later, I didn't click that it would have been about the same time as Star Trek: The Beginning.

The studios still haven't figured out how to properly monetize online content. Because of this, most webisodes have either been dirt cheap, heavily sponsored (recall the Toyota-heavy 24 prequels), or losing ventures made principally for promotional purposes.
