Spoilers The Flash - Season 3

It was a fast train, maybe it was carried forward by inertia...

Gravity pulls everything downward at 9.8 m/s^2. Horizontal momentum doesn't cancel that out. If you drop a ball from arm height at the same instant that someone else fires an arrow horizontally toward an open field from the same height, they will both hit the ground at the same time, even though the arrow has covered a greater horizontal distance in that interval. Since d = (1/2)at^2, if the train was phased and free-falling for 10 seconds, it would've sunk 490 meters below ground in that time, no matter how fast it traveled horizontally. Well, unless it were traveling at essentially orbital velocity, in which case the curvature of the Earth would cause the ground to fall away at the same rate that its path curved downward. But that's about 17,500 MPH or nearly Mach 23, and I doubt the train was moving anywhere near that fast.

Speed Force magic trumps all this science-y and math-y stuff.

I'm looking forward to how Gorilla City looks. I'm sure the visual shots for this episode are going to be great. Also looking forward to seeing Jesse again.

Just how dumb are Team Flash?

"Of course we believe Grodd. His story hangs together."

It's odd to see Gorilla City looking so primitive, when in the comics it's a super-advanced scientific civilization. I'm also annoyed that they're perpetuating the long-discredited myth of gorillas as fiercely aggressive warriors. Chimpanzees are the ferocious ones; gorillas are generally quite placid unless threatened. I always figured Grodd's belligerence was the result of being abused and caged by Thawne/Wells, but now they're portraying all the Earth-2 gorillas as just like him. Well, it is an alternate world, but still, I'm sick of the cliche continuing to show up in the media.

I liked the Flash's Captain Kirk speech in the arena. Too bad it didn't take.

I like how the episodes description on the guide mentions the trip over to earth 2 and then says while Kid Flash and Jesse Quick deal with meta that can control gravity. Um ok

Maybe I overhyped myself but I expected a lot more from that episode. I know they can't do big budget stuff but this was hyped as Gorilla City and we didn't see much of it. I would have liked to see how this city developed from when Grodd was sent, or Flash doing more than Just being prisoner. Also it seemed odd that the actress who played Gypsy was listed in this episode but didn't appear till the end, and it was a predictable way to set up next week.

Basically I was hoping for this epic event and came out of it thinking this is a pretty average episode of Flash.

  • The Grodd story was better than I thought it would be. "Planet of the Apes" was very apt and I was impressed with Gorilla City.
  • Seeing Grodd just miss the portal was pretty satisfying. Didn't expect Gypsy to be back so soon, or ever for that matter. So much for containing Grodd on Earth-2.
  • I like that Julian has become part of the gang. These shows tend to do that with characters that start off as acerbic or untrustworthy.
  • Jesse Quick! Glad she's becoming a regular fixture. She is isn't she?

This was an ok episode. Julian was really good, I'm glad he's become a character I actually like to see. It was great to see Earth 2 Wells again. Really, the big disappointment for me was Gorilla City. I wish it had been more like the comics, with mostly peaceful Gorilla's in an advanced civilization that, at most, are only violent because Grodd is mind controlling them. That would be more interesting to me then seeing Planet of the Apes on a TV budget, which is kind of what we got. Anyway, it wasn't a bad episode, just not quite as good as I hoped it would be.
