Spoilers The Flash - Season 3

I love the campy feel of that scene with Jay Garrick and the Trickster. It reminds me of the 90s The Flash TV show which I am sure is intentional.

Another clip from tonight's episode. Warning! This one has some SPOILERS in it.

I have been thinking about the Julian is Alchemy reveal. Is it really such a bad thing for a reveal to fit previously revealed information and expectations? I am sick of the recent trend of the opposite. Out of left field reveals that contradict previous known plot points, characterization, and the source material all to preserve spoilers.

That was a heart-warming Christmas episode and as expected, Julian changes his mind and decides to go to the party. Could have gone either way though.

Iris might die but it'll all be undone once Flashpoint is undone.

Mark Hamill as Earth-3 Trickster... Brief but effective and a lot of fun.

Great to see Shipp back in the game.

Now, who suffers a fate worse than death?

I think it showed on the computer Julian's full name is J. Albert Desmond. Albert Desmond is Dr Alchemy's name is the comics. Also he had multiple personality disorder. I would be surprised if that was the last we saw of Alchemy.

I am surprised Hamill's whole appearance was released online before the episode even aired. Hopefully he will return for another episode this season. Probably depends on what Episode 9's filming schedule is and how much he is involved.

So... We've now come as close as we ever will to seeing Mark Hamill play the Joker in live action. And we've come as close as we ever will to seeing John Wesley Shipp reprise the 1990 Flash.

I could buy Caitlin's powers turning the rain into snow in the immediate vicinity of the house (though she would more likely just turn it into sleet), but across town wherever Barry's new apartment is? That's way beyond what her power level is supposed to be.

So, we have a speedster from the future who is coming after Present Barry for something Future Barry does? Hmm, sounds familiar...
Also, why didn't they encase the box in concrete the moment they got it? And then call the Legends to fly the box over to a black hole and dump it in there? Surely tossing it into the Speed Force just means another Speedster is going to find it eventually.

Except it sounds like this speedster actually is future Barry. Which is what Comic Book Resources predicted this morning, since it's based on a storyline from the comics. (Alert: autoplay video at the link.)

Also, why didn't they encase the box in concrete the moment they got it?

Asked and answered in the episode. I didn't get the significance of Cisco's Jumanji reference, but I guess it has something to do with the idea that it would still inevitably be found eventually. Remember, it was buried when Savitar used Julian's memory of his sister to lure him to it.

And then call the Legends to fly the box over to a black hole and dump it in there?

If speedsters are capable of moving faster than light -- which comics canon says they can, so I assume that goes here too, and it's kind of part and parcel of the time-travel thing -- then a black hole couldn't confine them.

Surely tossing it into the Speed Force just means another Speedster is going to find it eventually.

Jay said it was infinite. Even a speedster would need an infinite amount of time to search all infinity.

Not necessarily. But if we never see him, I'm quite happy with what they're doing now.

The apartment was the north end of the city, by the lake with the lake effect snow. That was natural.
That was quite a nice apartment but then again, Barry is a billionaire now. Or maybe he can just charge it to Star Labs.

The reveal that Julian didn't know he was Alchemy and that he was also sort Savitar was a nice reveal, and helps keep things interesting after everyone predicted Julian was Savitar. It'll be interesting to see what happens with him with the reveals, and also now the fact that he knows about Barry and is getting to be friendly with Team Flash.
The scene with Jay, Barry, and The Trickster on Earth 3 was a blast. I wonder when that was filmed? Pretty every time I've seen Hamill since TFA he had the long hair and beard. I guess he must have shaved and regrown it all pretty quickly.
I loved seeing Barry and Jay, and Barry and Wally working together.
Now that we know Jessie comes back and teams up to fight someone, possibly Grodd, with Wally and Barry, I'm really hoping for that four way team up.
I was wondering if Savitar was trapped in the Speed Force, and by throwing the Philosopher's Stone into it they were giving right to him.
I was expecting a big dramatic cliffhanger, so going on the break on a positive note was nice.

Great episode. The Trickster scene was great, with Hamil doing a great job as always. I liked the stuff with Julian, he's grown a bit from the intolerable jerk he was at the start of the season. Savitar also seems to be a more interesting villain then I thought he'd be. I'm glad they ended the "no one wants Wally to be a speedster" thing, and HR's talk with Joe that basically resolved that was great. Overall, this was a great episode and its going to be a long mid-season break.

My thoughts on "The Present":
I'm starting to think that I should probably stop reacting so negatively and so strongly to stuff that happens on these shows because tonight's episode actually took something that I was annoyed about (the conclusion of Killer Frost) and made it work by NOT going the predictable route and keeping Julian "on the side of the angels" (for now, at least) even with him having been 'conscripted' as Savitar's agent, which rectifies most of the issues I had with what happened at the end of KF.

I don't really see the point right now of Barry witnessing Iris' death at the hands of Savitar because I don't think the writers have any intention of actually killing her off, but I'm going to try and keep an open mind as we see where things go.

Wally getting an official "Kid Flash" suit felt quite incongruous given how strongly everybody was opposing him "suiting up" earlier in the episode and how much of a tongue lashing that Joe gave H.R. for "enabling" him, but I guess it is what it is.

I'm not really sure why Caitlin decided that using her powers to turn rain into snow was okay when she was adamant about never using them again, but I guess they felt like they needed to emphasize the Christmas theme of the episode by having a "White Christmas".

I don't quite know exactly how I feel about John Wesley Shipp's version of Jay Garrick given that I haven't yet seen the concluding episodes of Season 2 in which he's first introduced, although I do like the relationship that he and Barry have and the way that he's able to serve as a mentor for Barry in a way that nobody else in his life can.

Barry revealing his secret to Julian was pretty predictable, but, as I noted, I like that it ended up working out in the end with him showing up at the Wests' house for their Christmas party. I also liked the interactions he had with Caitlin, and wouldn't mind seeing the two of them possibly getting to know each other better (because there was definitely sparkage), especially if they don't go the predictable route and turn him into a "black hat" (which I'm seriously hoping they don't).

The only real negatives for me in this episode were H.R. (please get rid of this guy) and the fact that it didn't really feel like a "midseason finale", although I am interested in seeing where things go from here.

I think it showed on the computer Julian's full name is J. Albert Desmond. Albert Desmond is Dr Alchemy's name is the comics. Also he had multiple personality disorder. I would be surprised if that was the last we saw of Alchemy.
Perhaps Julian can try a more science based approach. It seems to be more his element. ;)

That was a heck of a finale. I'm really glad there was more to Julian as Alchemy than meets the eye because for a character who started out one dimensional, he's being written really well lately. There was so much stuff in this episode that really pushed the stories forward and the momentum didn't skip a beat because of last week's crossover "detour". I'm really hoping though this is the last we hear Dante's name this season. Yeah I get it it's Christmas and it moved Cisco's story some, but since that whole thing seemed resolved, I would love for the back half of the season to really focus on this possible future we got a glance at and how to prevent it. Also, I wonder if there is more to Savatar under the suit. We saw this man who was consumed by the stone and turned into the speedster so I wonder if we might have another "Who is the guy in the iron mask" story like last season, unless it was intimated that it was Barry.

I was dreading the possible cliffhanger, but I'm glad we got kind of a joyous way to go into the hiatus. It is Christmas afterall, and I'm glad Julian showed up to the party. Also, I'm glad Barry is back at the police department. What else was Joe going to do, worry about Wally? I would like to see more of Cop Joe return.

Fantastic episode. It had the right mix of fun, action, drama, mythology, plot development and character moments.

I am really loving the Jay Garrick character. Having an older, wiser speedster (who looks like Barry's dad too) serve as Barry's mentor is perfect. It is exactly what Barry needs since he is still young and tends to act impulsively. I feel like Jay is really going to help Barry become a more mature Flash.

The scene on Earth-3 with the Trickster was fun and campy. The fight scene with Savatar was intense. When Savatar was beating the crap out of Jay, it looked super painful. We get lots of backstory on Julian and Savatar. As others have stated, I really like that Julian is not a one dimensional villain. In fact, I find Julian very sympathetic. He's not a bad guy at heart. He just got used by the Philosopher's Stone. The scene where Savatar prophesies through Julian was intense and sets up a lot of suspense for the season finale. I am assuming we are going to revisit that scene where Savatar captures Iris in the finale.

And it was great having the happy family scene without some evil speedster ruining it. Nice seeing all the characters happy for a change. When I see a happy family scene at the end of an episode, I get a little nervous, considering what happened last time with Zoom. It was nice seeing Barry and Iris get their own place and have a moment of genuine happiness together. Also, nice to see Wally finally get his Kid Flash suit. That plot point was dragging on a bit too long.

I think HR is still the weakest link of the group although he was a bit better in this episode than in previous episode. At least in this ep, he served to nudge Joe West to see Wally's potential. In previous episodes, he just annoyingly repeated what other characters had just said.
