The Flash - Final Season Discussion

Well, that was watchable, but had some plot holes. Like, where was Ryan all this time? We learned two weeks ago that she was missing, now she shows up as Batwoman in the climax, but we never found out what happened to her.

Also, Joe taking Jenna to the country and leaving Cecile behind doesn't really feel like it makes sense for the characters. It feels more like something contrived to justify writing Jesse L. Martin out of the show. And why bother when there are so few episodes left anyway?

So Khione clearly has some kind of connection to life, and apparently the power to heal with a kiss, unless that was some kind of residual bit of Frost passing into Mark, which might be the case given the cloudy effect and Khione mentioning the cold.

The thing about Grodd's Earth-2 gorillas losing their sentience in the Crisis is a retcon, since Cisco's map post-Crisis established that Gorilla City now existed on Earth-Prime. (Plus, in real life, gorillas and other great apes are already sentient, just not on quite the same level as adult humans.)

I was thinking at first that scenes of speedsters racing around the city had gotten old by this point, but they managed to work in some new moves with the use of speed lightning.

Ryan said at the end that she has weekly get-togethers with Kara, Alex, and Nia, the first mention we've gotten of the Supergirl team since that show ended. Isn't Nia going to show up later in the season? I kind of wish she'd mentioned Lena Luthor, whom she met and befriended in the theoretically canonical Earth-Prime comics miniseries last year.

Can anyone remind me where they got those cloud-of-smoke teleportation gadgets? I'm totally blanking. They seem like something from Abra Kadabra's arsenal, but I don't think we've seen him in a long time.

Incidentally, I noticed there's a writers' assistant in the credits named Zach Speed. A guy named Speed working on The Flash. That's like something out of a comic book.

I just assumed that they were using the extrapolators "differently" now that they can't find the other Earths.

Other Earths and other time lines are not the same thing.

There's no "there can only be one" bullshit.

There are no alternate timelines.

When you try to create new timelines, reality changes and your memories change to reflect that there is only one timeline, or at least that's what a decade of Legends of Tomorrow Established, and Flashpoint.

Probably how he got the job.

Considering that Team Flash was teleporting with those smoke bombs and that Barry carries Iris to France for a cooking class and wherever else their bucket list entails.

Why the hell would moving 2 hours outside of Central City and living there every day matter for Cecile? Just pop the smoke bomb teleporter, or ask your son-in-law to 'flash-taxi' you and take up 1 second of his time.

What I'm wondering is if "the country" would really be a better place for an African-American child to be raised, given that rural America tends to be far more right-wing than urban populations. We know from Black Lightning and Batwoman that Earth-Prime is not free of the racism that plagues our world. Central City seems to be much more accepting of diversity than Freeland or Gotham, so it might be a better place for the Wests to stay.

I mean, even aside from real-life prejudice, what if Jenna turns out to have inherited the metagene from Cecile? Where better for a meta child to be raised than Central City, with its large meta community and with the STAR Labs crew to offer her guidance?

This episode sucked, and I knew it was going to suck in the first 5 minutes. I don't care about any of the side characters, so when Barry says he and Iris are going on Vacation and we don't see him until the end, that basically told me all I needed to know about this episode. It's the final season and they couldn't even do Filler episodes right.

This was a fun little sidebar. It was nice to see Becky again, and the mystery about why her powers turned against her was reasonably well-done. Although it still frustrates me that Cecille and Allegra are both superpowered members of Team Flash yet neither of them has a costume or code name. Cisco would never have allowed that if he were still here.

The other annoyance is the conceit that a story that was obviously written with a casino sequence in mind had to dial it down to a "casino night" at their standing bar set, which just screams "budget crunch."

Also, it seems pretty obvious that it wasn't Khione that was creating the frost/snow effects, but Mark when Khione touches him, or both of them together somehow. I mean, the flashback to Khione reviving Mark with a kiss showed clearly that the cold/cloudy breath came out of Mark, not Khione. So it's contrived that none of the characters has thought of that possibility.

13 episode final season. Producers complain they didn’t get the 20 episodes they needed to do everything they wanted like the two part episode wrap up for Legends…but somehow this episode made the cut??!!! What a waste.

Production necessities. Throughout the series, they've had to do the occasional episode that was mostly Barry-less to accommodate Gustin's busy schedule as the lead actor. When it comes to restrictions like budget, schedule, and availability, TV shows have to make compromises that they wouldn't in an ideal world.

I mean I know the answer but in a final 13 episode season it should be all hands on deck. There shouldn’t be any need to cushion the budget and give actors breaks because they’ve already been given a 7 episode break.

There is what ideally should happen, and there is what the production can manage to pull off given its limitations. Those will always be different things. By your own argument, the producers would not have done this voluntarily if they didn't have to. Therefore, the logical assumption is that, for some reason, they had to. Just because we aren't privy to the reason doesn't mean it didn't exist.

I know it just stinks that on the final season we’re offered a filler pie. At that point I’d rather have a streaming season 10 episode piece with everyone moving the story forward. And we probably still would’ve had a filler slice.

It’s probably the end of the Red Death arc. Episodes 7 and 8 look like standalone episodes, leaving 5 left probably all for the final arc of the series.

But what casino boss would let an unknown deal? Sloppy writing.

Except that Becky Sharpe is a professional blackjack dealer. That was her job before she got powers and became Hazard. So she already has the credentials for the job, and maybe has already worked there on earlier casino nights. That's probably why her fiance's brother planned to use her this way in the first place.

Which I take as further evidence that the script was written with the expectation that the climax would be set at Becky's casino, and had to be rewritten for the standing bar set for budget reasons, or due to an inability to line up the casino for location filming again.

Nice to see Dreamer back but this is the second episode in a row where they have sidelined the Flash which is a strange thing to do for the final season.
At least we got more of Iris.
