The First Trailer

Looks like a cool movie. Can't wait. Is it July yet?

No? Oh, that would explain why it is a bit chilly out.

What is the deal with the motorcycle?

It's supposed to be the future.

Give us space motorbikes, not current ones.
A motor bike that flies in space?

Didn't see the enough of the bike to tell if its from...the...FUTURE!!!!

This movie will surely be the worst abomination ever put to film in the history of all mankind because it lacks space motorbikes.

He's right, you know. Space motorbikes are so much cooler.

What is the deal with the motorcycle? Have they outlawed the wheel in the future? I had the same "what the fuck?" reaction to people criticizing the Argo in Nemesis.

Assuming the motorcycle uses the standard Earth engine of the 20th century, I doubt there would be any petrol around in the time period in which Star Trek is set, something no one seemed to point out when Pine was riding a bike in Star Trek 2009.

Gee, I don't know, maybe no one pointed it out because they assumed that since this was the 23rd century, Kirk's bike probably had some other power source than gas?

As indicated by the FUTURISTIC sound it made as Kirk was pulling up.

Hmmm. Bad teaser. I'm holding out some hope that the movie's good though.
Listen if they do get this one wrong - there is a fourth film, no?

Nice! Galactica 1980. The only space motorbikes better than that are the Megaforce bikes!

Define 'wrong'. I've yet to see a Transformers movie I've liked, yet they keep doing $800 million in ticket sales.

This one needs to make money. I don't believe what fandom thinks factors into the equation.

Trailer is about as expected for something set to play before Star Wars. Get that crowd a little pumped up for a new sci-fi flick next year as they wait for the next Wars installment.

That said for a hero ship this new Enterprise is pathetic. Gets its butt stomped in all three movies. It doesn't fire one shot in STID. Now it's cut to pieces and crashes on a planet. Seems appropriate.

Wow, seriously?
Apparently you can't say a single thing about something you don't like or god forbid gave a discussion without being labeled a hater anymore...

Actually quite ambivalent about this trailer, to be honest. As others have noted, it's action-heavy to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, so likely won't truly reflect the finished film. Hard not to have concerns, though, not least as one of my issues with nuTrek is its apparent inability to pause for breath once in a while.

And yet, there's just something about it that gives me cautious hope; the odd moment or line that feels like TOS. "This is where it begins, Captain. This is where the frontier pushes back." particularly appeals, for some reason. Just can't shake the feeling there's a lot more to this film than smashing ragged chunks out of the Enterprise for the umpteenth time.

Or maybe there isn't. We'll see. I'm certainly not going to draw any solid conclusions without more information.

And a TV series! That's where I'm putting my hopes now. The movie series is clearly not for me.

Has a good, well rounded movie ever before been promoted by a trailer that was nothing but wild action?
I'm not being facetious; genuine question.

I said nothing of the sort. I simply said that the movie will be abysmal and insulting to all of humanity if it doesn't have a space motor bike in it. What's the big deal?

The 2009 movie was the most insulting, gawd-awful, vomit-inducing pile of wet llama feces in the known (and perhaps unknown) universe because the Enterprise was build on the ground as opposed to in space. Basically the same thing is happening here with the new film's lack of space motor bikes.

When Guardians makes 775 million and Star Trek doesn't, expect the later to look like the former.

This look like a 2016 movies just as TMP, TVH, and FC resemble the 70s, 80s and 90s.

The Martian is at almost at $600 million. That was a pretty awesome "Star Trek" movie. Not to mention other movies like "Interstellar" or "Avatar". They could make a blockbuster movie that feels like Star Trek, but instead they chose to turn it into an action franchise. There's so many sc-fi action films coming out these days that it makes the Star Trek films feel generic. I'm sure I'll see Beyond and enjoy it, but I'd love to see a Star Trek film that makes me the feel the same way that "The Martian" did.
