The finale of DS9 and afterwards...

So, what happened to the DS9 crew during the last episodes of the season and after that? I'm thinking of reading the Destiny trilogy and I want to get an idea of what has happened up to that point.

Thanks!

At the end of the show here is the fate of the various characters:

Benjamin Sisko - Sealed the Pah Wraiths forever in their prison on Bajor and was "acsended" into the Celestial Temple to be with the Prophets. He promises Kassidy Yates, who is pregnant with his child and also his recent wife that he will return one day.

Kira Nerys - With Sisko gone she is placed in command of Deep Space 9.

Worf - Takes up the job of Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire and moves to Qo'nos.

Miles O'Brien - Is given a position to teach at Starfleet Academy on Earth once the war is over.

Julian Bashir - Still on the station, for some infathomable reason starts a relationship with a second-string Dax, Ezri.

Nog - Is promoted to Lieutenant jg after the end of the war and seems to have taken over O'Brien's old job.

Odo - Goes back to the Gamma Quadrant to heal his people, who were poisoned by Section 31. His relationship with Kira is no more.

Ezri Dax - Is shot into the Bajoran sun. Okay, that didn't happen but it should have. She is still on the station as a counsellor and has tricked Bashir into a relationship. Oh, by the way Jadzia is dead.

Quark - He still runs his bar.

Rom - Is the new Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance. Zek was never very mentally stable so his choice of replacement isn't that surprise. It was either Rom or a Tribble and the Tribble was busy breeding.

Dukat - Killed/sealed with the Pah Wraiths in their prison

Kai Winn Adami
- Killed by Dukat's magical immolation power...that was not a joke.

Damar - Dead. Discovered the hard way that if you stand out in the open 1 m from a Jem'Hadar that they will shot you 15 times and ignore all other targets around you.

Female Founder - Allows herself to be arrested to stand trial for the war. Sent to New Zealand penal settlement where she has to work as a Hobbit at the popular vacation locations, "Lord of the Rings World".

Weyoun - Killed twice in the last 6 episodes, including once in the finale.

Garak - Moves back to Cardassia Prime to do something. Property development would be a good career move as the Dominion helpfully razed much of the planet's buildings to make way for new developments.

Morn - Still a bar bum.

As for the novels I'll be brief:

DS9 receives a bunch of new characters, a new first officer, new science officer, new flight controller for the Defiant, new counsellor and a new sort of co-manager of Quarks. They also get a Jem'Hadar character who is not very interesting.

Defiant goes on a mission to the Gamma Quadrant, not to visit the Dominion but to go and explore in non-Dominion areas. Ezri bumps her head and decides to she wants to be a chicken, bumps it again and decides she should give away counselling and go into command.

On the station Bajor goes about finally becoming a member, but wait there's problems! First Minister Shakaar has been taken over by a parasite, as seen in the TNG episode with the parasites...can't remember what it is called. He is killed before he can sign the agreement that would see Bajor join the Federation during the actual ceremony by a Trill. Don't ask me why he had to die then, there might be a reason but I can't think of it. Big reveal, the parasites are actually trying to get to Trill to get vengeance because they are mutated Trill symbionts that the Trill somehow failed to wipe out. Now based on Bajor they collect up the Orbs, which then ties with bringing Sisko back who banish them to another dimension. Sisko is back just in time for the birth of his kid.

Jake goes on an adventure to the Gamma Quadrant before that and returns just before his dad returns and his step-sister is born. He also brings back with him Odo (disguised as someone else) and Kai Opaka, who brings a warning of a new threat from the other side of the wormhole. Not much on this new threat only that it is out there and it is coming for the wormhole (oh nos).

Ro Laren moves to the station and breifly dates Quark. Rom has an adventure as Nagus but it ends up good. Odo is left in charge of the Dominion after the other Founders chuck a wobbly and sook off. Crazy Cardassian disguised as Kira does some stuff in the mirror universe and crazy plot ensues...which is where the story is up to now in 2377, Destiny is 2381 I think so DS9 novels is a bit behind and most of the events and crew of the show don't appear in Destiny.

Of those who do, you have Ezri and Worf. Ezri is given command of a ship due to a misfiled form and Worf is back on the Enterprise-E serving as First officer.

Here is a link to the DS9 relaunch on Memory Beta. You can through that read more detailed information on what the characters have been up to and the events of the novels. As for the final episodes and the characters, you'll find that information also on MB but you can try the Memory Alpha wiki for characters and episode info.
