The Final Three Poll

A near imppossible choice from those three. They are all fantastic episodes. But by a whisker I opt for "Balance Of Terror."

I voted CITY. Something about the set that always made me believe that Kirk and Spock were really back in the 1930s, that is until I see Joan Collins' bouffant. :D

Three very different episodes. Star Trek at its finest.

Doomsday is one entertaining fucking episode. Whats not to like? Planet eating thing. Starship with holes in it. Phasers. Explosions. Shuttlecraft. Transporter Malfunction. Overacting.

Doomsday by a nose, from Balance.

Balance of Terror, and I'm shooting a plasma torpedo at anyone who votes for something else. :p

I went with Balance of Terror.
I went back and noticed that during the last two rounds I haven't voted for TCOTEOF because I was trying to save other episodes from death.

There is a lot of criticism that BOT is a remake of Enemy Below, but Doomsday Machine has a lot of elements from a C.S. Forester Horatio Hornblower vignette that I've read in the last few years. I remember there is an older captain who has lost his ship and crew during an English Channel storm. Because he is a Royal Navy hero and all, Hornblower tries to rescue him. But the old captain is determined to give his life in order for Horatio and his men to escape Bonaparte's coastal soldiers. That story would have been readily available by 1967 to be tweaked into a TV episode. Remember, Bonaparte's Grande Armee' was "The Doomsday Machine" of its day.

WHatever the case with BOT as a remake, it's still the best TOS episode ever. Hands down. And I LOVE the other 2 eps as well.

"city on the edge of forever."

"balance of terror" is very good, but i definitely think "doomsday machine" has gotten seriously overrated over the past few years. good episode, yeah, but one of the three best of the series? no way.

Very easy choice - "Balance of Terror". It's one of my four absolute favourite "hours" of Trek, across all series. I've seen it numerous times; I never get tired of it, and I can't fault it.

I really think The Devil in the Dark should be here
Creepy and unnatural as it is, I agree. :D

I'm also very glad to see I'm not the only person who considers "City" to be overrated.

City has always been my favorite and probably always will be. BoT comes in second, but I still prefer Corbomite and Naked Time over BoT. Doomsday doesn't belong on this list of Top 3, but I agree it has aged very well.

Well, to be honest, I'd substitute Devil In The Dark for Doomsday Machine in this poll any day of the week. BOT and City both deserve to be in the final three.

Oh, no you're not. You're gonna shoot a phaser set for proximity blast.

Guys, if there was ever a debate in the top 5 regarding "Mirror, Mirror", let me lay it to rest. I just watched it and it's so far below these three it's not even funny. And I like the episode.

I voted for "City," of course, but I suspect that the submarine-movie ripoff will pass it.

Actually, BoT and the Joan Collins emoting hour are currently tied.
