Am sure someone will set it up though not as easy to track those numbers is it ?
There are places to get those numbers from, http://www.the-numbers.com is the main one but does not include Blu-Rays. The first we will hear about it is when Paramount put out a press release saying how well its done, the hard figures will come later via the aforementioned site and one other site which I don't have the link for (its a forum thread somewhere)
Just thought I'd bump this thread up again since one of the things we've talked about was Trek's performance worldwide (currently at #8 for the year), and just because box office numbers are interesting to me.
"2012" looks like the first movie in a while to come along and potentially affect Trek's position on the worldwide chart for 2009. It looks like early estimate are putting "2012" as heading toward $170 million or so through Sunday globally ($60+ domestic, $110 international). This is ahead of the $155 million global launch of "The Day After Tomorrow," Emmerich's last epic disaster film. "The Day After Tomorrow" eventually earned $357 million internationally, and $544 million globally.

I heard little kids talking about the DVD yesterday, awaiting its release on disc. It's been so long since I've heard small children love and praise STAR TREK it was delightfully refreshing.

Well, it would have to make over $65 million more than Twilight did to do that. That seems unlikely to me, but New Moon has been getting a hell of a lot of promotion, so you never know.
As for 2012, yeah, it's international total is quite a feat. I figured it would probably do well, but I think this is beyond most people's expectations.

New Moon will definitely open HUGE. It's definitely going to outgross the first film. The question is, by how much?
Oh, I don't doubt that New Moon will be huge, and easily outgross its predecessor. I'm still staying hopeful that it won't beat Trek domestically, though -- surely, as audiences, we Trekkies are a bigger force to be reckoned with than a bunch of teenage girls.

Star Trek is still holding steady at the number 5 and 8 positions respectively, as it has done for the past few months. How much longer it will stay in those spots remains to be seen; I'll be very interested in seeing what these lists look like in a couple months, after 2012, New Moon, and Avatar have made their marks on the box office.

Internationally, all three of those will surpass Trek. Domestically, I think New Moon and Avatar will. 2012 will probably perform similarly to The Day After Tomorrow, and top out under $200 million.
Early estimates put "New Moon"'s midnight opening at around $23-24 million. That's just for shows after 12:01 am last night.
I noticed some theatres around here showing it at 10:00 pm last night. If a fair number of cinemas did that instead of (or in addition to) midnight showings, it could partially explain those gargantuan figures.
But either way, damn... that's quite a haul. Looks like we might be out of the domestic Top 5 sooner than I thought.

Yeah, it's going to be making money a lot faster than I thought. Internationally, it's doing really well too. Like in France where it opened 4 times bigger than "Twilight."

Now the midnight numbers are estimated at $26 million, and morning grosses are at $14 million. On track for $60-70 million Friday, and could topple "The Dark Knight"'s opening day record of $67 million.
Ho-ly shit. Between this and the success of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, I would be very disappointed in audiences this year were it not for Star Trek's triumph at the box office. Perhaps I'm being unfair to New Moon, which I admittedly haven't seen, but it looks rather insipid to me.
I still haven't seen Twilight, and don't ever plan on seeing it or any of its sequels. I'm fine with people liking it as long as they aren't crazy and annoying about it, but that's true with everything.
