The Final Ongoing Star Trek Box Office Thread

Just got back from a 9:30 pm IMAX showing. There was at least 40-50 people, people laughed and enjoyed it, and there were applause at the end.

That is truly amazing. Out four months, still in theaters, still drawing that many people in a more expensive venue (imax)...EPIC!

Looks like 258 is out of the question, but we can always round up... ;)

Last date at our IMAX is this Wednesday. I'll be there. 'Cuz 50 is nifty, or so they say.

Yea 40% loss just like I thought. I don't think we will hit $258, but its been a great run regardless.

Still made more than a quarter-billion dollars in the U.S. That's just $32 million less than THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK!!!:techman: And that is most impressive for any TREK film.

Final Weekend Total: $190,314 (-42.3%)
Domestic Total: $257,424,306
Worldwide Total: $383,809,688

About as expected... as if anything like this performance was "expected" out of this movie... :)

IMAX here has extended it through this weekend. Seems the people--audience--don't want to let it go.

Star Trek is still #5 domestically and #8 globally; it has occupied those positions on the charts for about a month now, and that doesn't seem likely to change any time soon. Although it'll be interesting to see how far up the list X-Men Origins: Wolverine climbs, since it will be opening in Japan this Friday. Will it pass Trek? Tough call, but it will probably be close.

On the topic of Wolverine, it actually comes out on DVD today (in North America, at least). It's also still playing in a handful of theatres (7 to be precise).

Other things to note: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs has proven itself such a monster hit in the foreign markets that it has surpassed Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in the worldwide box office. The movies now rank #2 and #3 respectively.

Both The Proposal and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra have now grossed more overseas than Star Trek has. Sometimes, I really don't get foreign audiences -- I mean, how does the "Real American Hero" (whose film hasn't exactly been acclaimed) manage to gross almost $20 million (so far) more than Trek in the non-American markets? It's a mystery to me.

I TOLD them to put in the Dinobots! But did they listen? NooooOOOOoooo.

The TRANSFORMERS sequel is a huge steaming turd of a film for the most part...ugh. How movies like that make over $400 MILLION domestically always puts my eyes in roll mode. TREK was infinitely better in almost any discernible respect and yet it has to settle for one hundred fifty million less in box office.(*Sighs*)

It looks like HP6 is going to be the first film in the series to cross $300 million domestically since HP1.

$16,275 for Monday September 14th. Down 59.9% from Sunday and 78.8% from last Monday (probably to be expected, since last Monday was a holiday). This is the lowest single-day take for the film yet, and the second-lowest per screen average ($70).

Domestic total: $257,440,581. It's pretty much a certainty that it won't hit $258 million now. Ah well, it's still had a great run!

Looks like no 1 billion target probably the busy summer of movies didn't help compare to less movies it faces during the old non summer releases.

Hard to say. HP5 and HP6 were both summer releases and they are the most successful films in the series worldwide, after the first film.

I have been saying that, and every time another movie has come out this year and the foreign results blow by Trek but lag far behind Trek domestically, this is a source of intense irritation to me.

The perception of Trek is tainted outside of the major English speaking countries, that is my only explanation.

People in other countries can look up the super high ratings Trek got online, and still it wasn't enough to get them into the theater.
I guess these people just aren't interested in it, like they are other movies.

Here's a fun one to look at...Japan, where you'd think a sci-fi movie might do well.

Looking for Trek? It's in there...at #54

I think everyone can be happy how well Star Trek did in domestic market. However foreign market was only satisfactory and needs improvement for the sequel.
Haven't done trek movie comparison for a while so here are the top 2.

1. Star Trek: The Motion Picture: Domestic total: $82.3 million and Worldwide Total: $139.0 million
Adjusted for predicted 2009 inflation: Domestic Total: $239.1 million and Worldwide total: $403.5 million

2. Star Trek: Domestic Total: $257,5 million and
Worldwide Total: $383,8 million

$17,877 for Tuesday September 15th. Up 9.8% from Monday, down 12.2% from last Tuesday. Per screen average was $76.

Domestic total: $257,458,458.

Wonder how much of that is IMAX? And does it continue at IMAX through the weekend? I don't think so.

Still, pretty consistent at this level, with the inevitable fade continuing.

Unfortunately not. "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" opens in IMAX this weekend, so most if not all the ones that started it showing it last week will end this week.
