The Final Ongoing Star Trek Box Office Thread

A shame they didn't repeat the local drive-in viewing near VMI in Lexington. It seems to have been a one-time event.

am going to see film again on Thursday my local cinema is showing it at senior screening only £3 a ticket with a cup of tea & biscuits (how british ). Went there few week back to see Damned United and it was 70% full but don't expect same this time around.

Gross for Monday September 21st: $7,713. Down 52.6% from last Monday. Per screen average was $60, the lowest it's been yet.

Yep, looks like we're definitely approaching the end of Star Trek's days at the box office, but what a ride it's been!

Domestic total: $257,611,714. Also, it should pass $384 million worldwide by tomorrow.

What's heartening is that the drop-off is not as bad as for Transformers and Harry Potter, still pointing to the legs the movie has.

11 people purchased tickets to see the thing at the Cannery Row IMAX with 15 minutes left before the movie starts--it still has that appeal.

I'm hoping that those legs will spell a far more front-loaded movie next time that will still have legs and attract even more new faces... :)

The quote below comes from an article about this year's blockbuster performance in Singapore. It comes from a local Singapore paper.

The biggest surprise, however, was the performance of Star Trek, the reboot of the venerable franchise. The sci-fi blockbuster earned a healthy US$380 million worldwide, but in Singapore, it failed to feature in the top 10 with a paltry taking of $1.7 million.

Top 10 grossing films in Singapore from April to August.

1. Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen - $8.43 million
2. Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince - $5.02 million
3. Night at The Museum 2 - $4.3 million
4. Up - $4.11 million
5. Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs - $3.9 million
6. X-Men Origins: Wolverine - $3.7 million
7. G.I. Joe - $3.62 million
8. Angels & Demons - $3.16 million
9. Terminator Salvation - $2.97 million
10. Monsters vs Aliens - $2.75 million
Shinjuki Incident - $1.9 million
Star Trek - $1.7 million
Land of the Lost - $0.99 million

Well its quite simple.... they think Nu Star Trek isn't for them.... yet they will eventually see it somewhere, somehow, like it and then go see Trek 2 or 12 in the cinema!

Have you seen Batman and Robin? OMFG I caught the end of it recently and my god it sucked. How can they recover from such lameness? ...

BATMAN AND ROBIN Was so heinous that even Alicia Silverstone naked in half her scenes wouldn't have helped lift that turd out of the gutter. It's easily THE worst superhero sequel of recent history...at least since SUPERMAN IV(1987).

$7,322 for Tuesday September the 22nd. That's down 5.1% from Monday and 59% from last Tuesday. Per screen average was $57, the lowest yet.

Domestic total: $257,619,036.

Worldwide total: $384,004,418.

Bit of an upswing for Wednesday September 23rd: $9,058. That's an increase of 23.7% from Tuesday. Per screen average was $70.

Domestic total: $257,628,094.

Eh, not necessarily... heck, Wolverine is still technically playing in a few theatres (albeit only 5) and it's already out on video. Trek is still showing at over 100 locations, so I think it might have a couple weeks of life left in it yet.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Star Trek was the only film in the Top 30 yesterday to see an increase in gross from Tuesday. :bolian:

Yeah, you're probably right, the slow fade will continue.

By the way, my local IMAX has extended Star Trek by popular demand... dumping Transformers II in the process to make way for HP. :)

The amount of theatres lost tomorrow isn't too bad -- Star Trek will be playing in 89 locations this weekend, which is 40 (31%) less than the number of cinemas showing it today.

This films box office take was nothing short of spectacular... Quite frankly I don't think anyone expected this film to be half the blockbuster that it turned out to be. I can remember as late as March reading that this film was going to be the "Speed Racer" of 2009 and that early summer films like Wolverine and Angels and Demons (to name a couple) would trounce the new Star Trek film at the box office.

If you had told me two years ago that a new ST film would do over $250 million at the domestic box office alone, I would have asked what type of drugs are you taking.

Hats off to everyone involved... Against all odds Star Trek is back on the map commercially (and artistically) and the franchise is alive and well... Great job from everyone from Mr. Abrams on down.

P.S. It turns out that the return of Kirk and Spock was the best way to go commercially. It seems the general public is far more interested in their adventures than any other aspect of ST.

I wonder, with the fact that the Oscars are expanding the Best Picture noms to 10, if we might possibly see a brief return of the film to theaters around Oscar season? Dark Knight came back out for a couple of weeks and it didn't even get nominated for Best Picture. If Trek somehow squeaks into that top 10, might Paramount give it another go to raise back some exposure during Oscar voting?
