Yeah, at 16.00 a pop instead of 1.00 at the bargain theaters, this could make a nice difference.
It's unfortunate though that Star Trek in Imax isn't any better than a regular theater, just larger.
I never understood why he went with 35mm film instead of a high res digital format.
Y'know, I'd respectfully disagree with that--no image quality was lost at the IMAXes I saw the movie at.
And the sound...Wow.
But it'd be nice if the next movie were shot entirely in IMAX format given the ton of money it'll make.
How much more does it cost to film in Imax?
Odd, still no results from Thursday.
Box Office puts the three-day take, minus Monday, at $305,000, a 67% rise for a $1,138 take per venue and total earnings of
257,070,000
The question is, how close can the IMAX experience push it to 260?
(Cue Jaws theme)
4-day estimates up:
Star Trek $420,000 - Total: $257,184,000

I think that $258 will happen eventually.

It really depends on how long it stays in theaters. Paramount left Iron Man in for 22 weeks. This was Trek's 18th week. Hopefully, Paramount can keep it in for that long as well.
