The Final Ongoing Star Trek Box Office Thread

IMAXes are more expensive and have greater capacity, so it really could make a tangible difference...

Yeah, at 16.00 a pop instead of 1.00 at the bargain theaters, this could make a nice difference.

It's unfortunate though that Star Trek in Imax isn't any better than a regular theater, just larger.

I never understood why he went with 35mm film instead of a high res digital format.

Y'know, I'd respectfully disagree with that--no image quality was lost at the IMAXes I saw the movie at.

And the sound...Wow.

But it'd be nice if the next movie were shot entirely in IMAX format given the ton of money it'll make.

Yeah but I didn't say it lost any image quality, I said it wasn't any better.

And all out 4k would have been amazing to watch.

Of all the things that have been brought up on this forum, THIS was my only real disappointment.

How much more does it cost to film in Imax?

A lot. It's takes longer and is more expensive. WB and Nolan are looking into filming the next Batman film in IMAX.

There is NO way that Trek will be filmed all in IMAX. The most that's been done so far are select scenes for movies.

Odd, still no results from Thursday.

I think Paramount and Warners started their labor day weekend holiday early. Even movies that they reported (G.I. Joe, etc) are estimates. So they probably report Thursday numbers the same time the actual weekend numbers are reported next Tuesday.

Alright, I expect about $215K to be added to the total gross by the end of Monday nights business, which would bring us to about $256,940,000. So it should break $257 before next weeks weekend. Thats considering only mild drops this weekend smaller than usual due to Labor Day.

Box Office puts the three-day take, minus Monday, at $305,000, a 67% rise for a $1,138 take per venue and total earnings of

257,070,000

The question is, how close can the IMAX experience push it to 260?

(Cue Jaws theme)

^^^^
Yeah, Box Office Mojo is giving the same figures for the estimate. Sweet! I thought it would get a boost from the IMAX showings, but I didn't think it would be this good. How close will it get to $260 million? Hard to say... it's only back in IMAX for the week, right? And after the long weekend, ticket sales will probably drop off...

I don't know -- it would be nice to see it get closer to 260, but at this point, we're probably just being greedy to want even more... not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

If I recall correctly, it's back for a 2-week run.

Still going strong at IMAX Monterey... through September 16, my 50th birthday.

Might have to celebrate with yet another viewing. :)

Damn, under by 100,000ish.

260 is certainly a no go. Imax only has one more weekend left and its post Labor Day. I doubt even 258 is possible, but that depends mostly on next weekend.

That's a great increase. I didn't expect it to cross $257 this weekend.

You figure, $90K for Mon-Thurs and then $240K for next weekend and that only brings us to 257,400,000ish. And then it leaves Imax again the following Thursday. So yea, I would say 257.6-8ish is the end.

4-day estimates up:

Star Trek $420,000 - Total: $257,184,000

http://www.boxofficeguru.com/weekend20.htm

I think that $258 will happen eventually.

It really depends on how long it stays in theaters. Paramount left Iron Man in for 22 weeks. This was Trek's 18th week. Hopefully, Paramount can keep it in for that long as well.

If Trek only goes 22 Weeks it certainly will come up short. I just can't see it making 600k In its 19th week onward in so few theaters.
