The Final Official Countdown to Season Seven

My all-time favorite sit-com is Mad About You. But the - can you even CALL it a genre? - the "genre" is definitely fizzling out. (It's about time, if you ask me.)

Friends USED to be good...but it jumped the shark about 3 seasons ago, IMO.

Seinfeld OTOH, was good to the last drop!!! :D

Except for the last drop. That last episode was a stinker and a half. I remember the enthusiasm for the coming finale and what could possibly happen...and then the let down. One of my friends in particular was quite pissed about it. (Of course, he has something against blue M&Ms and throws them away as some sort of protest.)

Perhaps they could have saved it by pulling a Newhart ending making it a dream. Well, just that last episode, anyway.

My favorites are probably Newhart, All in the Family, the first 8 or 9 seasons of Cheers , and the Dick Van Dyke Show. The latter could be rather hokey, especially during the episodes with singing and dancing. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit. My favorite of the Dick Van Dyke show is the one where Laura reveals that Alan Brady was really bald.

EDIT - Doh! I forgot Mash, too. At least the first several seasons.

Personally, I'm a Frasier fan myself. I missed something like the first 3-4 seasons, but watched them on rerun, and kept up with the new stuff ever since. Frasier's been crackin me up since Cheers; I was real happy when he got his own gig. It's just now getting to a point where I don't either make sure I'm watching it or taping it. Guess it's time for their last hurrah.

Seinfeld didn't do much for me. I'd laugh sometimes when I tuned in, but it wasn't enough for me to keep tuning in. I think it also nagged me that there was SOOO MUCH fanfare over this show when I could just take it or leave it. Friends was waaay to corny for me, and still is. And a lot of shows after it have followed in the same path.

But I LOVE Scrubs :p  Hey, it's corny, but it's witty corny! I love taping it cause I can rewind and catch some of the satire that just goes by too quickly for a first watch. That show is friggin hysterical! Why NBC treats it like a red-headed stepchild and kicks it into any old 20-minute slot that suits em is beyond me  At least they're still on air.

Honestly, I think my all time favourite sitcom would have to be The Fresh Princ of Bel Air. I just loved watching that show.

Scrubs is great. That's one of those shows that I love, but never remember to watch. When I do watch, it's usually great. I had no idea that the time was being played with, but where its' actually a good show, that doesn't surprise me. :p

Frasier, I didn't care a whole lot for. It's funny at times, but there's a bit too much drama with Niles and Daphne (sp?) later on. Plus, I kind of preferred the Frasier that gradually started to unwind over the years at Cheers. It does have a great cast and a lot of good episodes, though.

Very good show! I fell away from it toward the end cause of excessive corniness too, but I was convinced that Will Smith could act. He gave validity to the "gimmick" of turning rap stars into actors. Shame so few have followed ;) (at least there's Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, & Mos Def)

My all-time fav sitcom - The Cosby Show. Hands down. I catch it on TV Land sometimes, still cracks me up.

EDIT to add:

I actually recorded Frasier two weeks ago, and got the first minute of Scrubs after it. That's how I found out that they moved it to Tuesday nights. NBC really is trating it like a mutt, but it's got to be (IMHO) the best sitcom they've got right now. I guess the Nielson families just don't agree.

I loved the first seasons of The Cosby show, but the last ones (with the expanded cast) were IMO really bad.

Meh...my favorite sit-coms, in order:

1. Seinfeld
2. M*A*S*H
3. Will & Grace
4. All in the Family
5. Father Ted

And that's only if you don't count Sex and the City as a sit-com. If you count that, it would be around number 3 on that list.

Yeah, I wouldn't count SATC as a sitcom. It's definately a great show though. :D MASH is definately a great show and I always liked Will & Grace when I watched an ep. I haven't seen a lot of it though. I usually also enjoyed Just Shoot Me and Step by Step.

I think I just don't like sitcoms in general. I can take about 3-4 seasons of one maybe, then it starts to either get old or really grate on my nerves. I'm like, "do you STILL have the SAME problem?!?!?!???", "get over it already!!!" Oh well, guess that's like real life (still got the same problems I haven't gotten over ;)), but it starts to seem redundant to me on tv. I guess if I had a top 5, it'd be:

1. Cosby
2. Frasier
3. Cheers
4. Scrubs
5. Fresh Prince of Bel Air

I know what you mean about Cosby, BigFoot. Tho I enjoyed it till the end, I thought it was time for it to end.

Vash, we may be siblings, but we are polar opposites on sitcoms :p  Then again, my (our) younger brother & I rarely agree either, so I guess it runs in the family ;)

Frasier was okay at first. But after a while, Kelsey Grammer's over-acting REALLY started to get on my nerves. I love Peri Gilpin, David Hyde Pierce, and the others on the cast, but they just CAN'T make up for the cringing I go through whenever Frasier faces yet ANOTHER personal crisis and goes off the deep end. That joke only worked the first 50 times or so.

I don't care for Kelsey Grammar. He gets on my nerves...both on screen and on Leno. :p

That being said, I think I like all the other actors on Fraiser. Like everyone BUT the lead!

Well I just posted this in a thread about StarGate SG-1 on scifi/fantasy, so I thought I'd copy & paste it here. :D

I went downtown today, so while I was in FutureShop I decided to check out the StarGate SG-1. So they had S2 and S3 for what seemed to me very cheap $52 canadian. So I think I actually would have gotten S2 even though I don't have S1 yet, but I only had $30 in my wallet. Anyway...when I got home, I was curious what the price was on amazon.ca. I was shocked to see that they're selling S1, S2 and S3 for cheap-ass $34.49 CDN. So I ordered all three season right away. I'm not sure, but I have feeling like someone screwed up with the price or something, cos amazon.com is selling the sets for approximately $52 american. Either way, altogether it's gonna cost me less then $120 CDN (tax included) which is less then one season of DS9. Sweet huh? :D :D

Ladies ladies, calm down! There's enough Kelsey Grammar to go around I'm sure :p

Yeah, Frasier's bungle-ups have gotten downright annoying. You'd think he would find a way not to say stupid stuff that drives great potential women away. I mean that dude has had so many opportunities not to be single it's sick! I was really hoping he & Roz would just realize they're best for each other & hook up. Man, she reminds me of someone I know at work. She looks just like a younger Roz, and man I'm hooked. But she up & got married :( Oh well, on to the next look alike. Where's that Tyra Banks one when I need her :D....

...nah, dunno why I went off into that ;) I told y'all this was a topic about nothing ;)

Good finds on the Stargate deals, BigFoot! I suddenly want to get The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series on DVD. Lemme know if you happen to see it el cheapo ;)

Yeah, I think so too. It's just so bloody cheap. And yeah, I'll let you know if I find it cheap somewhere. :)

Hey all. :) (Did anyone miss me or even notice I was gone ;) )

I'm finally back from a long ski trip that was supposed to last just the weekend. My parents and I went up to Reno Nevada to go skiing. Than on Monday we were supposed to come home, my Dad's truck broke down (bad cylender, or Gasket or whatever the problem was) and we were stranded in Reno until today. Being 19, it sucked, but I was able to get another day of skiing in, especially when the resorts were not as crowded as they were on Saturday. It is good to be home again.

I guess we are talking sitcoms, so I have to ask; does anyone like Everybody Loves Raymond? I see a lot of bashing towards the show, mostly in the Misc forum and I don't understand why. The show isn't that bad, and I think its really funny especially with the Mom, Dad, and Robert.

As for my top 5 sitcoms

Home Improvment
Two and a Half Men
Cheers
Frasier
Everybody loves Raymond

Also I used to like Sienfeld, but the final episode ruined the show for me. I try to watch reruns on occasion, but I see these people as bad criminal people of society and I can't warm up to them at all. The show was funny for a time, but the finale was so bad that it probably ruined Sienfeld for me forever.

EDIT: One other thing. It may be late, but happy one year anniversery to me under this user name. It's been a blast. :)

While looking at my Wish list at Amazon.com (some money was burning a rather huge hole in my pocket last night), I came across a sitcom I couldn't believe I forgot earlier: NewsRadio. There's not even a release date listed on amazon yet. :(

I can't wait to get the first two seasons, though. That has to be one of the greatest sitcoms ever. Off the top of my head, one episode I can't wait for is the one where Jimmy James goes to Japan to read from his bestseller. The english copy he gets to read from was an engrish translation made from a translation of the original english edition into Japanese.

You were gone? Just kidding, man, welcome back! Hope the ski trip was fun!

Can't say I'm part of that everyone... y'kno, who supposed loves Raymond ;) It is funny though. I caught a portion of an ep tonight and found myself laughing. Mainly Robert cracks me up. His expressions are just hilarious. Raymond is a bit to deadpan, even for me. But the show has it's moments.
