The Final Frontier: Not So Bad!

As bad as Nemesis or Insurrection or Generations? I watched it again last night, and I have to say, that even though it was shatastic, it still had a TOS magic and theme that some of the later films lacked. Was it really so bad?

hmmmm The Final Frontier. One out of two trek films with comedy in it out of the rest of the Star Trek films.

The Final Frontier had a lot of heart. There were just more than a few moments in that film that were unforgivably dumb.

I always liked it. Despite a lot of script problems, and special effects that were painfully sub-par, the film had a lot of good parts to it, and even had as much - if not more - social commentary than the other Trek films. And that includes TVH.

Enterprise-A's new bridge, finally a shuttlecraft, TNG style warp bubble interior shot (klingon bird of prey), the return of Star Trek III's starfleet communicators and tricorders...

thats the good.

It's definitely got its moments. And I'd most certainly rate it higher than both INS and NEM. Not sure where I'd put it compared to GEN.

A great movie.

...But this topic seems strangely familiar. Isn't a new one posted about every week now?

In my opinion, what hurt TFF the most was the special effects. FX are not what make a movie, but they're important if it is to be believable. I also didnt like how the Klingons were portrayed, very cartoonish.

Compared to GEN, at least TFF felt like a movie, not a 2 hour TV episode. So Id have to pick TFF over GEN.

To this day, I still enjoy The Final Frontier immensely. To me, it felt more like what the orginal series was about than any of the others.

This movie has grown on me. Didn't really care for it at first, but over the years, the nostalgia brings back pleasant memories. I saw it with my mother in a theater filled with parent/child pairings - of various ages - and we were all making comments throughout the viewing. It was hilarious.

Not to mention, the loyalty and bonds of friendship really shine.

Peace.

I think that TSFS is the best evoction of the original series.

I badly wanted to like TFF, have valiently (and unsuccesfully) defended it to degraders (even in my family), but . . .

let's not be silly . . . it's pretty bad.

No... I think Nemeses and Generations fit that bill...

V was all around fun and enjoyable.

I didn't think Generations was bad, to be honest...
EXCEPT THAT THEY DESTROYED THE ENTERPRISE-D!!!

Trek V didn't have ship destruction... The ship didn't work (which was pretty funny), but they didn't destroy it.

Probably the self destruct button didn't work. :p
