The Feds and The Cure

Lets just say Odo had told the Founders, "screw you I'm stayin w/my smokin' hot babe" What would have SF/Feds done?

1) Let the disease wipeout the most Changeling population-then let them have the cure

2) Give it to them anyway because The Feds are nice in exchange for peace in our time
3) Told the Founders, "screw you"
4)??????____________________???????

The Federation had decided during the war that they'd not give the Founders the cure. One of the reasons the Founder ordered the Dominion and Breen to cease fire was because Odo agreed to return to the Great Link, something the Founders have wanted for a long time. I would say the Federation still would not have given them the cure if they had won without Odo linking and curing the Founder. The Dominion has been trying to conquer your civilization, would you give them the cure? I would have to believe that most people would not.

After all the hardship and misery they put the AQ through, I'm sure I'd have felt the galaxy would be better off without these amoral, superior, liquid folks. But, it would be genocide. After she called off the Dominion forces, I'm not sure I could have at that point.

Just the same, the next virus would be in the works, and it would without fail have no cure that could be effected in a timely manner.

I don't agree with the premise of the original post. It is not in Odo's nature to allow a genocide to occur when he has the means to stop it. He would be unable to do something so fundamentally contrary to gis nature as to say screw you to the Founder, or to obey a corrupt Federation order not to deliver the cure. Odo's nature demands that he acts in a way that delivers justice to the best of his ability, and he cannot violate that. Therefore, what is proposed in the original post could never reasonably happen.

Aside from that, his "return" was handled in a murky, hackneyed way, much like his out-of-character response to the Sisko's corrupt order not to deliver the cure (ie: him agreeing to do nothing, and then doing nothing) was. Odo could just dip one foot into the Great Link, cure a few, and then leave them to cure the rest of each other. Odo could be said to have "returned" after having done that, or stayed for a few days or a week after having done that, then went back to Kira. Therefore, WYLB making a big huge deal out of Odo "returning" without even explaining the terms of that "return", which doesn't really make any sense in my view. Certainly it's not implied in the show that Odo would be a prisoner forever at the Great Link, therefore, with what is given on-screen, there is nothing at all to stop Odo from having his cake and eating it too. Curing the Great Link for a few days, then going back to DS9 and keeping his hot babe.

In my view all of the above speaks to the rushed and tacked on ending of the series, which despite much praise for the final chapter, has many flaws such as these due to being rushed and tacked on.

I agree. WYLB screams for resolution. Forget the books, I'd like to see a miniseries that ties up all the loose ends and brings us to about the time of the Reman incidient

I didn't think Sisko's order was necessarily corrupt, just necessary. Odo had always acknowledged that his people started a war that killed many millions. What would you have Sisko do, other than to trust Odo's word that he wouldn't take matters into his own hands? He would have had to imprison Odo otherwise, completely offending his sense of justice and honor, and, taking him out of the series until the war was resolved.

If you were Sisko in that situation, what would you have him do? Cure the enemy? If Odo couldn't see justice in the Federation's stance at this point, he should have been long gone to return to his people!

To let Odo leave to cure his people at that point would have been tantamount to conceding the war and life as it was known in AQ.
