Yeah. That's all I was saying. This thread is confusing the hell out of me.

Can we have a few pages of posts explaining Locutus of Bored psot?

I'm wounded. The guy who contributes nothing of value to every thread he posts in finds my post overly long - or at least I think he does based on his badly spelled and poorly formatted post. Whatever will I do? :(

Above average. I'm definitely interested - I like Jason Ritter as the lead - but it can't be excellent till it convinces me that the characters overall are more than just one big bland mass. I'll stick with this for a while, assuming it stays at a comparable entertainment level and give the characters time to grow on me.

Not an immediate "SOLD!" like Lost's premiere was, but also not off-putting like 24's was (and no, I didn't like 24 right away).
For everyone complaining about not knowing the characters' names, didn't you see "Sean Walker" flashed on the screen what seemed like a dozen times?
That cracked me up. :D They've either done market research or just read all the comments by people on the internet complaining that they can't even remember the characters' names after five or six episodes (which I notice seem to be symptomatic of a show that isn't grabbing people's attention, tho I'm not sure that forcing everyone to learn characters' names will have the reverse effect).

Well, it did seem like you made that overly long post out of spite.

Spite against whom? I was giving my analysis of the show, which is kind of the point of this topic. A show that I was looking forward to, BTW, and will continue to watch, so I had no agenda going into it. Half my post is just my theories on the show and impressions of what the various factions are, not criticisms. Plus, my post being out of alleged "spite" is not even what he's complaining about (he expressed a negative opinion earlier).

I will give bigdaddy credit though, since he actually contributed an on-topic post earlier. You couldn't even manage that. You just came in to defend him being rude for no reason.

I haven't seen the show yet.

I was wondering where all the wind was coming from, and why the ground would be shaking ... I can't imagine the pressure wave ahead of the airliner was *that* powerful so far ahead of its arrival. Maybe it's a byproduct of the "air orifice" breaking wind or something ... just before it swallowed the plane.

Even so, did it have to be so extreme?! I think that fianl scene gave me motion sickness.
No, it didn't. I thought it was pretty ridiculous myself. Like most of the rest of the episode, it was done to drum up suspense because the story and characters were completely unable to do so on their own merits.

My problem with that last scene was that the previous flashback to that part of the timeline didn't have any strong wind or shaking ground.

Perhaps that means "some will survive, but not all;" denoting an extinction level "event." Also, the focus on the "EV∃" in event could signify the "eve of destruction" or duality of some kind; perhaps in the form of an alternate universe with copies of people from this universe (too 'Fringe'-like) or clones of long since abducted humans beings returned by the aliens or future humans with a purpose (too '4400'-like). I can't help but think of 'ST: Nemesis' when I see the backwards "E," and though it's probably a real longshot, I hope that didn't serve as an inspiration. However, maybe I'm overthinking this and it's just an attempt at having a cool title logo. ;)

Nice analysis. Here's my decidedly less eloquent guess for what the big picture will be in case you missed it:

Interesting. Maybe we should have a "What do you think 'The Event' is?" thread so everyone can post their predictions for future reference (if it hasn't been done already).

If the show lasts, that is. So help me I damn near turned it over to ABC to watch Bristol Palin dance. Keeping me entertained... is not The Event.

Bristol Palin's dance? It moved.

Any pilot of a new series should have a little bubble caption of the characters' names and motivation and background constantly hovering next to their heads like a thought balloon. That's how you keep your viewers.

Not a bad idea. Or, you could have a little ticker at the bottom of the screen providing all the relevant character and plot information while the action flits from one inane sequence to the next. On the left-hand side you could have character cards with pictures and vital stats. On the top you could have the running timeline -- and where in the timeline said inane flashback sequence is occurring.

You wouldn't want anything on the right side of the screen because that'd get distracting.

I just finished the pilot and quite liked it.

I hope The Event, whatever it may be, is something that can be revealed before too long yet still be something that can keep a show going for a while, and not be something that teases the audience for a long time with little or no payoff.

It does seem to be an alternate/parallel universe thing, if I only go by the hotel room thing.

I would have enjoyed it more if they told it in order, and spent more time on each scene. I found everything very rushed and disjointed. I liked the scenes with the parents and the cruising couple. Too bad he didn't get time to look in the safe for his ring. I wonder if it was there? :p

[..snip]

^^^^
This - and I'm really tired of shows being aimed at the ADD generation (because they think they'll loose the younger viewers if a scene goes on too long) - and just tell a cohesive story without jumping back and forth all the time.

Once the plane flew through the 'portal' - I was done with the series as I don't feel like watching some stupid explanation be dragged out for weeks at a time.

Just set up a decent story, and tell it. I don't want to get to a character saying: "Okay, here's the deal...'; and then see nothing flashbacks for the next few weeks, etc.

Besides, this show will probably be canned by episode 13.

No, the cruiseship cabin (hotel room?) thing was clearly a conspiracy issue, not an alternate/parallel universe thing. You can get a sense of that just from the way it was presented. I am guessing in the next episode he will break into the room to search it and find that whoever is doing this missed the wedding ring in the safe.

You're likely right, I thought when they asked him about his passport he'd say it was in the safe.
