The ENTERPRISE is Designed Like a GARBAGE SCOW!

Recall in "The Trouble With Tribbles" where the Klingon officer Korax is taunting Scotty and Chekov, he says "We like the Enterprise. We--we really do. That sagging old rust bucket is designed like a garbage scow. Half the quadrant knows it. That's why they're learning to speak Klingonese."

Got me thinking... what if the Enterprise actually does resemble a Klingon garbage scow...

Couldn't get this idea out of my head all day so I took a few minutes and drew this up:

There's my Klingon garbage scow.

I kinda want to build this as a model.

I love the concept. I know it's not very TOS, but the idea of a Klingon garbage scow makes me think of something a bit more industrial, like the ENT Klingon ship with all the bracing and cables, and actual garbage just being sort of strapped on to the side, like the loose cargo containers hanging out of the Rebel Transports in Star Wars.

This looks awesome!

The design actually makes a lot of sense. I could see the saucer section being detachable, with a process like:

1) Ship arrives at station in need of garbage disposal.
2) Ship leaves its emptied out saucer section at station and retrieves the filled one.
3) Ship travels to waste processing station.
4) Ship leaves the filled saucer section and retrieves an empty one.
5) Go to step 1.

I wonder whether Klingon warriors ever pick up garbage. I would have thought they weren't very neat. The evil Klingons probably have garbage slaves!!!

However, a nice drawing of a funny ship!

I thought that for a second too. But then I wanted to make it look like something that Matt Jefferies could have drawn. Plus, the resemblance to the Enterprise is the important thing.

I was thinking similar except a detachable saucer hadn't occurred to me. That would be easy to include. Thanks for the great idea!

Everyone else: thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it.

And within the hull of that garbage scow is a story of an artifact of extreme importance that no one except the raiding ship in pursuit of the scow knows about....except for the other raiders trying to befriend the crew of the scow to take control of it.

What a glorious concept!!!

I know it's corny phrase, but this is now part of my "personal canon". Whenever I watch this episode again, this is what I will see when Korax starts slinging insults.

You gotta' show David Gerrold this! I honestly think he'll love the concept!

I'd love to show this to Gerrold. How do I reach him?

I don't see this as a "garbage scow". Mainly because this design is just too cool to be a garbage scow. Seems more like a Klingon / Fed hybrid or something. Excellent design and execution. And yeah, you should totally do a 3D model of this.

What sort of garbage does an interstellar civilization with access to technology like the transporter produce, anyway? Surely it's not paper towels and empty cans. The TNG episode "Final Mission" showed a garbage scow that carried radioactive waste ... maybe there are materials that don't break down easily in the transporter and are therefore moved around in bulk. Otherwise, I'd expect waste to usually be treated on-site given sufficient power and a working 'dematerializer'. Breaking the waste products down into something more elementary and possibly reusing it to make other things.
