I see news corpse is doing it's usual shit stirring in the lead up to Australia day (I'm expected their rag in Adelaide will find a way to dig up the Beaumont kids story for the billion time).

Guess many people have forgotten how Australia day was before the lying rodent became P.M.

Public holiday on the Monday and people would be out enjoy the summer as the kids had a last hurray before the start of the new school year.

But to it probably provides a distraction from the coalitions self immolation if things weren't bad enough with a lib slaughter expected at the next S.A election.

After the state bank debacle, labor was left with 7 seats in the lower hour so I wonder if the libs will match it or do worse.

I wonder if labor will go through 3 premiers by the time libs next win office.

On Australia Day - I kind of remember what it was like back in 90s when I lived in Townsville. Not much. I am pretty sick of all of the debate with both sides of the argument. So I pretty much try and ignore it and get on with life. Don't think I am doing anything tomorrow. Besides enjoying eating a meat pie as lunch. I do look at the memories of when I did spend the day in Sydney a few times walking around the city, over a decade ago now. Now, don't really want to head out as I'm happy sitting at my PC. The only way I think it will change the date - if some government changes it or there a referendum on it. Don't think that happen for a while. Pity we never got to vote to become a republic.

Yeah but would becoming a republic change much of anything? How would it improve the lives of all your fellow citizens to make such a change? Sure it will happen sometime in the future, everything does change but how would it affect most people day to day?

I wouldn't mind it and find the very strong opposition to it amusing as if the status quo would be best, that also is not a good argument.
