Trekcore are saying no date is confirmed, but Amazon did have December 31. Hopefully they'll push it up in time for Christmas.

Kinda glad that date is incorrect. Two months is way too quick. I would guess it would be out around November.

31 December is almost always a placeholder for online stores until an official release date is available, whenever they want to indicate it will be available sometime within the calendar year. If it is not, then a more generic message saying the date will be determined later is used.

My bet is late Nov/early Dec, just in time for holiday shopping.

We're heading to Idiocracy. You're 30 years too late for Spaceballs (assuming you're on about murchundising)
I was talking about the scene where they had instant home video. "When does this happen in the movie?!"
"Now, you're looking at now."
ETA: Late November, early December would be fine with me.

It is a common misconception that animation translates to kiddie fare. There has been a strong lineup of animation films this year which prove this genre can have adult themes and concepts while appealing to both kids and adults.
.
There have been a few threads about animated Trek movies.

What, at this point, would the economics be for an animated Trek?

I don't know the pure economics behind it, but it's worked well bridging the gaps between Star Wars eras. Done right, a Trek animated series or series of movies would be a fine way to continue the saga of NuTrek or even established shows like TNG.

It's very unlikely that 10 or 15 years down the line, you're going to be able to reassemble the current movie cast to create another series of movies, ala TOS cast. But turn them into animated characters and you can have them go on as long as the fans will buy it. You may not get all the original actors to voice the characters, but continuing the timeline is more than just vocal continuity.

Wouldn't put it past Paramount to release AFTER Christmas w the craptastic mkt they put together for Beyond..... LOL

Im sure it will be Nov early Dec just before Holidays

There's nothing wrong with "kiddie fare". Done right it will bring new fans into the franchise. Like it did (believe it or not) for Star Wars. Do you know how many young kids watched The Force Awakens with their parents not because they were fans of the old movies but because they became fans with Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels? Quite a lot, believe me!

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if Beyond comes out sooner. Three years ago Into Darkness came out in, what? May? And the DVD/Blue Ray was released September, around Labor Day. I didn't see Beyond until a week and a half ago, but it's been out since May hasn't it?

Still in the cinemas too. About 30 people watched the 2015 showing at Swiss Cottage in London tonight. Alas only available in headache-vision. £21 for a ticket.

I wonder when we'll be getting more info on when or if Star Trek XIV is really gonna happen.

Even if Beyond is a success in China, there will be a major upheaval on the Star Trek front cos Paramount want its movies to do well in the States (and Europe) and Beyond has performed rather poorly.

My felling is the next one will be quite different from the last three movies, perhaps a whole new cast and/or production team and it might take a few years to get made.

I think it will be different, yes, but I can't see how they'd sell a new cast - Kirk, Spock etc are the most famous selling point in Trek, and an unknown group of Star Trek characters (if that's what you're hinting at) would be a much harder sell, hell even rebooting TNG would be extremely difficult to secure a decent box office return.

The only thing I can see at this point is the current cast with a reduced budget say 120-150million and a refocus on a tighter storytelling. There's plenty of OTT FX scenes that could have been trimmed from Beyond without it affecting the overall movie too much - saucer flip is a great example.

Star Trek Beyond is the First Star Trek movie since First Contact (where I was too young) which I didn't saw in Cinemas. In fact I haven't seen this movie to this day.

Everyone says it's better than the first two Kelvin movies. But that's not really a Bar that ignites excitement within me. And from anything else I saw and heard this movie looks bland and generic as hell:shrug:

I certainly would have watched it if I or my friends had any time for it. But the novie was on nobodies priority list, and there were much better alternatives. Which is sad, since Trek is ultimately my favourite Franchise...

Why not just watch it and form your own opinion of it then? I cannot understand for the life of me why, if Star Trek is your 'favourite franchise' you wouldn't go and see it?

Sounds like you and your friends might've been more excited for Orcis ST3
