News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

I've gotten a hankering to watch The Muppet Show again and, since I only have the first season on DVD, I'm curious to know if anyone has heard if and when Disney+ will be showing it? That'll get me to subscribe in an instant.

I'm in the exact same situation, and I haven't heard anything about any more Muppet content coming to Disney+.
I'm a huge Muppets and Jim Henson fan, and the small amount of Muppet content on there is one of my biggest disappointments.
Before it started they were going to do a new Muppet show for it, but that ended up being one of the first things that they cancelled.
According to Wikipedia there is an a improv short series premiering this year, but they haven't said much about it beyond announcing that it's happening.

I'm still waiting for a movie like Enchanted (Where it's a Disney movie but it's not streaming anywhere) to come to the service. I haven't really seen any good reason why it's not on the service yet.

Enchanted was on Disney Plus at one point very recently (I know because it popped up when I used the service to watch the live-action Aladdin a month or so ago).

I'm assuming this is taken from the same book the movie was based on?

Oh, that's awesome. I really like the movie adaptation, but it is a little dated at this point, and there's so much more of the story to tell than even that long movie (3+ hours IIRC) was able to cover. And I'm a sucker for Space Race stuff, anyway. Really looking forward to this.

I was a little surprised that there was no mention of the movie anywhere in the article. I understand it's not really related to the movie, but usually articles like that will at least say something about how the book had previously been adapted into a movie.

I have to wonder if The Right Stuff was originally going to be aired on the regular NatGeo channel, but after Falcon/Winter Soldier and Mighty Ducks and pretty much every other show had their productions postponed, Disney decided to move it to D+ so they'd have something respectable on there.

Interesting. According to the original announcement, The Right Stuff is actually planned to be an ongoing series with the first season focusing on the actual contents of the book and future seasons continuing on through to the moon landing.

The article made it sound like that was pretty much what happened.

Who here has watched Prop Culture? I've watched half of the episodes so far, and I've found it to be a very easy to watch show. Lots of great little looks into these movies, and it really makes you appreciate these classics even more.

I'll probably finish it within the next few days. I'd be down for a second season.

Short but super sweet list this week. Well, at least if you're a Star Wars fan it's a super list.

other D+ news this week:

-they're making a National Treasure tv show for the service
-ABC is going to air a Taylor Swift concert on all platforms including D+ (sorta like the 2 Disney Singalong specials are available on multiple avenues)
-new series coming next year called Just Beyond, based on RL Stine books, described as a horror comedy
-Muppets Now might be coming this summer

No word on the original Muppet Show, but Kermit has officially announced Muppets Now.
Not only does Disney+ not have The Muppet Show and the original Muppet Babies, it's also missing The Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppets from Space. I've also been a bit disappointed that they don't have is Dinosaurs, which was produced by Disney.

The Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppets from Space are apparently both owned by Sony, not Disney. Copyrights for music and film clips seem to be holding back The Muppet Show and Muppet Babies. No idea what's holding back Dinosaurs, which was released on Hulu in 2017, but isn't there now.

Ah, right, I forgot about copyrights for the music. I believe that was an issue for releasing the DVDs, too. Bugger.
