I've seen it many times and like it. I always like watching Lee Marvin, he had a great presence.

Some have mentioned Inglorious Basterds... that was a movie I quite enjoyed till the last quarter and then ended up basically hating it.

The sequel novel is news to me. Did E.M. Nathanson also write that one? The 600-page novel, for all its depth, virtually left out the critical attack mission, saving it for the last eight pages and basically in P.S. form.....

Yes he did and the two TV movie sequels have nothing to do with it. A Dirty Distant War the survivors of the Dozen are sent to the CBI and get in a mission in Vietnam along with Ho Chi Minh

The Wild bunch and Bonnie and Clyde get a lot of the credit for upping screen violence, but The Dirty Dozen features our heroes locking all the Nazis in a shelter (With their wives and numerous innocents), and pouring gasoline and grenades in the vents. It's pretty intense, and undoubtedly exciting.

Actually, IIRC, servants were the only innocents and they were told to leave.
